Audioslave – Audioslave

Audioslave
Artist: Audioslave
Title: Audioslave
Label: Epic
Rating: 7/10

Audioslave is the Rage Against The Machine minus frontman Zach and in his place comes one time Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell.

If you are expecting Rage Against The Machine then you will be disappointed. If you are looking for Soundgarden then you’ll be closer to being satisfied, but truthfully Audioslave seems to be a combination of both and a mix of something different. The sound is harder and streamlined. The certain hooks are there even though some haven’t no apperant care for radio just to make us feel them rock.

Rock:
“Cochise” – Heavier than expected. Cornell’s voice has never sounded so nasty, in a good way.
“I Am The Highway” – You will be surprised to find this slow track is one of the album’s best.
“Getaway Car” – Cornell seems to be running from love or something else. Good thing too, because these tracks are the best.
“What You Are” – Boom. It comes out of the box slow, but don’t be fooled.

Roll:
“Gasoline” – Tom Morello gets his tremolo on.
“Show Me How To Live” – Sounds too much like a Soundgarden retread, Cornell’s fault.
“Set It Off” – It would seem this as close as Audioslave gets to a political song although there seems to be no apparent cause except to set it off.
“Hypnotize”

Skip:
“Like A Stone” – Goes nowhere.

One question, where the hell is the awesome Tom Morello guitar sounds? That is what I look forward to most when I listen. Here we get the rare track or solo where Morello goes off, what a huge disappointment. Thankfully the album itself is good.
