CORPORATE LINE: Passion, not a word you hear all that often any more when it comes to music, but Kasabian have it by the tractor-load. They’re not making music to be famous, or because it’s a good career, they’re making music because they need to, because it’s etched somewhere deep in their souls. “Why be in a band?” asks singer Tom Meighan. “Because it’s the only thing I could do. There’s nothing else I ever wanted. Nothing, nothing. This is what I’ve wanted to do ever since I was four. This is why I’m here.”
THE GREAT:
“Club Foot” – Blasts out of the speakers like a hit from the British Rock scene when the Verve and Oasis were the kings of the world.
“Lost Souls Forever” – Anyone that has craved a Verve album could get their fix here although you might feel a little bitter that Kasabian is going to try and make their name by borrowing their livelihood from the Verve.
“Cutt Off” – Infectious. Quite possibly the best track on the record.
“Processed Beats” – A remarkable track that is quite simple and yet it is one that really gets your juices flowing.
THE AVERAGE:
“Reason is Treason” – The vocals aren’t as fluid as those in “Club Foot” and don’t sound as organic.
THE BAD:
Nothing.
FRANKLY: Kasabian might be a one or two hit wonder. Anyone that has heard of Space Monkeys might know enough about them to understand it when we say; Kasabian might be another Space Monkeys. It’s both a good and a bad thing. Irregardless—if you haven’t had your Brit rock fix lately Kasabian will hook you up quick.
