Kem – Kemistry

Kem
Artist: Kem
Title: Kemistry
Label: Motown
Rating: 4/10

Corporate Line: KEMISTRY, a timeless album came together after years of career-changing experiences, and has been more than two years in the making. While working on the CD, KEM waited tables, sang with a gospel troupe and a Top 40 wedding band. But he never lost sight of his dream. Instead, he stepped out on faith, quitting his job and going after his dream. He looks at this album and it’s upcoming releases as “great testimony to any one who’s ever been told to go out and get a real job.”

The Good:
“Say” – Lovely vocals and great Jazz feel. I just don’t understand why this album was mixed so poorly. Kem has a wonderful voice, they should be putting that out front and they don’t.
“I’m Missin’ You Love”
“Cherish The Moment” – Silky smooth.

The Bad:
“Matter Of Time” – The song wouldn’t be so hard to absorb if the vocals weren’t so far down into the mix. The instruments dominate too much.
“This Place” – Wanted to like it but the echo on the voice is annoying.
“Brotha Man” – The scat just isn’t interesting enough. Bland.

Frankly: A very poor mix on this album brings down the ratings significantly. Kem has a lot to offer and bad engineering ruins it.
