Jamie Kennedy – Blowin’ Up

Jamie Kennedy
Artist: Jamie Kennedy
Title: Blowin’ Up
Label: Rerise
Rating: 3/10

FILE UNDER: Rhymin’ and stealin’—your money.

CORPORATE LINE: Kennedy, who is best known for his hit prank show on the WB The Jamie Kennedy Experiment, has already blown up in the online community. He is the Number One artist on My Space, the hugely popular social networking site, where previously posted tracks, including “Circle Circle Dot Dot” and “Rollin W Saget” received more than 2 million plays. In addition, the new video for “Rollin W Saget” – featuring former Full House dad Bob – hit the Top Ten on YouTube the day of its release and is now nearing half a million views.

Blowin’ Up, produced by Toronto native Stone, is a lighthearted rap album with comedic undertones and poppy beats that spotlights Kennedy and Stone’s hilarious partnership. It features cameos by several guest stars who have appeared in the series, including Houston rapper/jeweler Paul Wall on “Mattress Mack,” Bay Area hip-hop legend E-40 on “F*ck Jamie Kennedy,” and Toronto rapper Kardinal Offishall on “Rush the Club.” Ice-T and Limp Bizkit turntablist DJ Lethal also make cameos.

THE GOOD:
Zip, zero.

THE AVERAGE:
“Rollin’ W/Saget” – The video is mildly amusing—the song isn’t. Its funnier that most kids today don’t know Bob Saget. Kennedy is styling his comedy towards people who are late-20s and older and honestly we just don’t care.
“Crooked Stick” – Surprisingly the beat is good. That’s all there is to say about that. The lyrics sound like something a fifteen-year-old came up with. Maybe that’s the joke. If it is—its not funny.
“Flirt” – Stu Stone kicks out a dope hook and then Jamie Kennedy comes along and ruins everything.
“Mattress Mack” – Paul Wall takes advantage of a hot beat and makes good—that is until Jamie Kennedy decides to show up.

THE BAD:
“Circle Circle Dot Dot” – One hook throughout the entire song. Let’s get serious. This sucks.
“1984” – Rhyming about He-Man and where’s the beef? Come on. This proves anyone can get signed to a record label.
“Car Rear” – Kennedy couldn’t rap to save his life.

FRANKLY: We get it—it’s supposed to be funny. It’s supposed to be a farce. Right? It’s not funny. Kennedy should stick with acting like a fool and Stu Stone—well he could have a career as a rapper—that is if he stays far away from his horrible partner-in-rhyme Kennedy.
