Jon B. brings his vocals and other skills as a songwriter, producer, and instrumentalist to world of R&B. Jon B. has written and produced songs for Toni Braxton, After 7, and Color Me Badd. His 1995 debut album, Bonafide, brought a mix of soul and hip-hop to the table and Cool Relax emphasized classic soul. Pleasures U Like, his latest release, brings together a few quests and lots of soul.
Nas adds to the “Finer Things” while Cuban Link mixes it up on “All I Want Is You”.
“Don’t Talk” is one basic love song. Faith Evans is recruited to give her flavorful work on “Overjoyed”. Jon B. gives it his best to send out the love on “Boy Is Not A Man”. “Layaway” featuring AZ has a little more spice than its predecessors.
Jon B. has a good voice, but I have the feeling he has been saving his best songs for other artists. The problem with Pleasures U Like is it’s extremely monotonous. Track to track sounds almost similar. It’s as if Jon B. is in first gear and just can’t seem to find his way to forward or reverse. Pleasures U Like will find an audience, just not one here.
