Company Line: A musical prodigy in his formative years, Javier’s musical gifts took him to the University of Hartford’s Hartt School of Music, where he founded an R&B based a-cappella quintet that performed at Harlem’s legendary Apollo Theater. He graduated from Hartt with a degree in Music Education but Javier started on his path as a world-class performer as the lead singer for a neo-funk group dedicated to the legacy of Bill Withers, Maceo Parker and Tower of Power among others. “Being in that band really helped me grow vocally. I had never done anything like that. I found another gear that I could kick into when I wanted to, turning me into a funk singer I didn’t know I could be,” he says.
The Good: Zip, zilch…
The Marginal:
“Crazy” – This has Babyface written all over it… except that the fact Babyface has nothing to do with it.
“Hey Little Sister” – Nice ballad that is more on key.
“She Spoke To Me” – Good, just not great considering it taps too much from Debelah Morgan’s “Dance With Me”.
“Song For Your Tears” – Soulful just not emotional nor interesting.
The Ugly:
“Slow Motion” – The lyrics ruin the entire song. They are very elementary and don’t sound like a moment was given to make them better.
Frankly: Javier has a decent voice. The producers are the ones who muck everything up by giving him tracks that borrow from artists all over the board. Javier never gets a chance to be an individual and to let us discover him.
