Jay-Z – The Black Album

Jay-Z
Artist: Jay-Z
Title: The Black Album
Label: Roc-A-Fella
Rating: 6/10

Corporate Line: Jay-Z is back. What else do you need to know?

The Good:
“December 4th” – Shawn Carter gives us a look into his childhood.
“Threat” – A punch in a haters gut.

The Average:
“What More Can I Say” – Jay-Z gets braggadocios. He is sure to tell us that he is the best if only he could prove it here.
“Lucifer” – Hot sample without much meat.

The Ugly:
“Change Clothes” – Not near Jay-Z’s best.
“Moment of Clarity” – It’s more a moment of insanity.

Frankly: Jay-Z peaked years ago and it’s been a hard pill for fans to swallow. A new crew of hip-hop lyricists seems to be passing Jigga by. If Jay-Z doesn’t release another album we can still say he left a legacy, that is if the next album isn’t worse than this otherwise he might end up tarnishing his game.
