The Good:
“24” – A bombshell–If only Jem cooked up more tracks like this.
“They” – Crafted with a style like her contemporary Esthero, a forgotten group who were ahead of their time.
“Finally Woken” – Jem stays on cue with a track that’s deeper than it appears.
“Wish I” – Interesting style, perhaps only because it’s different than most of the record.
“Just A Ride” – Lovely—gorgeous simplicity.
The Average:
“Come On Closer” – Nice, yet monotonous as Jem barely strays from the beat.
“Falling For You” and “Flying High” – Lovely.
“Save Me” – You want to love it–if only it didn’t sound like the rest of the album.
The Ugly:
Whatever.
Frankly: Jem mines a style long forgotten. Lots of artists try to stylize their sound but rarely hit the mark. Jem has a huge potential as shown in “24” and “They.” Let’s hope she kicks out more jams in the future.
