Jacki-O – Poe Little Rich Girl

Jacki-O
Artist: Jacki-O
Title: Poe Little Rich Girl
Label: TVT
Rating: 6/10

CORPORATE LINE: The twenty-something rapper and songwriter is a triple threat offering real and raw lyrics, a nimble delivery and a face and style that seduces. She has an inner might and charming personality that keeps her above the urban stereotypes. That powerful combination positions this temptress to challenge the female heavyweights in the industry.

The Miami native followed up with another single, the Timbaland-produced, “Slow Down”. Her album, Poe Little Rich Girl, is set to make a Fall debut on TVT Records. The impressive debut features an all-star cast of producers – a rare feat for new talent. Poe Little Rich Girl also features collaborations with the Ying Yang Twins and Trick Daddy.

Jacki-O is at the forefront of a new power generation of female rap artists who are pushing the limits of hip-hop’s sexual identity while at the same time responding to the poverty and violence of the ghetto.

THE GREAT:
“Break You Off” – Nasty and yet radio viable. Jacki-O doesn’t front even when she’s trying to make a few bucks.
“Gangsta B***H” – Maybe I’m a sucker but you’ve gotta love a gangsta b***h.

THE AVERAGE:
“Ms. Jacki” – Raunchy—just what you’d expect from the queen of nasty.
“Living It Up” – An obvious attempt at a radio single however it loses what Jacki-O is all about.
“Ghetto World” – Tries to get sappy ala Tupac style—it doesn’t work.
“Fine” f/Ying Yang Twins – The Twins get live and Jacki isn’t backing down and lays the wood.
“Pretty” – Janet Jackson she is not.

THE BAD:
“Slow Down” – Eek. Goes no where quick.

FRANKLY: Jacki-O drops seventeen tracks and that is about seven tracks too much.
