The poppy punk era is in full swing, but there have been few acts able to crossover into the mainstream and still maintain their creativity and originality. The (International) Noise Conspiracy happen to be one of a select few, with their A New Morning, Changing Weather cutting through the stereotypes of modern rock.
The album starts off blandly. “A Northwest Passage” and “Up for Sale” are radio-friendly and overly accessible. Their most average material is at the front of the album for the quick listeners to consume and toss aside. But once you travel into the latter half, beginning with “New Empire Blues” and carrying on through the album’s final and title track “New Morning, Changing Weather”, an entirely different band is present. It flows with the finest English heavy-psychedelia blended in among the muddied chops that evolved massively from start to finish.
It’s interesting to see how bands with talent comparable to The INC would handle an album of this nature. It is radio friendly, and some might say a sellout, but it reflects an abundance of know-how from outside the lines of punk music. If you choose to listen it through and hear the changes as they arrive, it offers much more than your average Green Blink Sum 18241.
