CORPORATE LINE: Paris Hilton was born on February 17th 1981. She’s the daughter of Rick and Kathy Hilton and granddaughter of Conrad Hilton. Her family is superrich and the owners of the Hilton hotels all over the world.
However, Paris Hilton has never wanted to be just “the granddaughter of Conrad Hilton” she has said she wants to be known as Paris. In the year 2000 she started to be seen more often at celebrity parties and in tabloids. Paris quickly became a celebrity of her own.
Determined not to be dependent on her parent’s money, Paris and buddy Nicole Ritchie featured in the reality-soap “The Simple Life” and Paris said she loved making her own money. Soon enough Paris had also gone into acting and now she’s dropping her first album. The self-titled record features the summer-hit “Stars Are Blind” and is released on August 23.
On the album Paris has worked with a bunch of successful people like Scott Storch, who has worked with 50 Cent, Beyoncé and Christina Aguilera, Dr. Luke, who co-wrote and co-produced Kelly Clarkson hits “Since You’ve Been Gone” and “Behind These Hazel Eyes”, as well as S.O.S hit-maker JR. Rotem and Kara DioGuardi.
THE GOOD:
Nothing.
THE AVERAGE:
“Turn It Up” – The nightclub beat is hot—don’t get me wrong—but the vocals are completely throwaway as Paris sings “we can get it started/ don’t be scared to party.”
“Stars Are Blind” – How Scott Storch made Paris tolerable might be the greatest producing job of all time. The problem is that the song is boring.
“I Want You” – Producer Jonathan Rotem threw in everything but the kitchen sink in hopes of distracting us from Paris.
THE BAD:
“Fightin’ Over Me” f/Fat Joe and Jadakiss – A song about all the boys fighting over Paris is bad enough, but the lyrics and vocals are even worse than the premise—its sad to see Fat Joe and Jadakiss stoop so low.
“Jealousy” – There is nothing more annoying than listening to Paris singing about a jealous friend.
“Nothing In This World” – Not even the producer’s pitch correction could fix Hilton’s voice. It is amazing that the hook is still danceable.
“Turn You On” – “The club’s not hot until I walk through/ stop and stare and watch me moving/ I’m sexy and you know it clap your hands” says enough.
“Do Ya Think I’m Sexy” – Rod Stewart won’t complain about the royalties—but he may want to distance himself from this train wreck.
FRANKLY: The first thing Paris did right was to hire Scott Storch as her producer. The first mistake she made was to sing on her own record. Certainly some kid at a rave will be floating on ecstasy praising the grand work of Paris Hilton.
