Hoobastank is a four-piece rock band from Agoura Hills, California, and they have a sound close to fellow Agoura natives, Incubus.
“Remember Me” is watered down melodrama. “Running Away” is just a huge dose of more of the same. They lock on a chorus and just never leave it alone.
When Hoobastank finally find their way around to really rocking on “Pieces”, they still sound too much like Incubus. Funny, it was only a few years ago that Incubus was shunned as Korn clones and now we find a pile of bands copying the so-called copycats.
“Better” isn’t great, but it’s finally a start. They actually have seemingly carved their own track.
Listening to the album, I can’t help but wonder why they would also bring in Incubus producer Jim Wirt to make them sound even more like Incubus. Huge mistake. It’s always a bad idea to not only sound like a band, but then to work with the same person who will make you sound even more so.
