Artist: Gomez
Sounds like: Something from Almost Famous.
Influences: The ’70’s
Gun:
“Shot Shot” – More of the oddball Gomez combined with sweet sounding instrumentation and colorful vocals.
“Rex Kramer” – Ben Ottewell’s crackles with good ol’ fashion southern rock ‘n’ roll. It’s just what the doctor ordered and Ottewell’s voice is at the height of fashion.
“Detroit Swing 66” – Inspired rock.
“In Our Gun” – Giving it to us the right way.
“Ruff Stuff” – Cool beat, as edible as it gets with Gomez.
“Drench” – Fresh.
“The Ballad Of Nice & Easy” – Complete ’70’s goodness.
Slingshot:
“Even Song” and “Ping One Down” – Ottewell’s voice is wonderful, but a little too long in the tooth.
“The Sound Of Sounds” – too light, too long.
“1000 Times” – Reminds me a bit of Pearl Jam, but still good.
Pee shooter:
These guys always come well equipped. Nothing to skip.
Gomez aren’t bringing the ’70’s back, but then again they aren’t giving us the same crap we always hear on the radio today. In Our Gun is pure rock fun.
