Goo Goo Dolls – Gutterflowers

Goo Goo Dolls
Artist: Goo Goo Dolls
Title: Gutterflowers
Label: Warner Bros.
Rating: 5/10

You know who they are. They sing pretty pop rock songs that even your mother loves.

Out of the gutter:
“Sympathy” – Not a great song, but I felt, well, sympathetic.
“Truth Is A Whisper” – Seriously the only good track this album has to offer.

Falling:
“Big Machine” and “Think About Me” – Blah rock tracks that bare no lyrical heart.
“You Never Know” – The only track that sounds like it has any immediacy and is sung by bassist Robby Takac. It’s still not that good.

In the gutter:
“Up up up” – These guys are going down down down. Buffalo’s other hometown hero Ani DiFranco had a song like this, with two or three more ups, and it kills this sorry ass track.
“Smash” – What is this garbage?
