Good Charlotte brings geek to sheik with their “Little Things”. It brings a giant hook that gets radio’s attention and converts the nerdy masses. It’s Good Charlotte’s punk posture and carefree attitude that will win you over, but realize it’s the true pop sensibility that hooks the line and drags you in kicking and screaming. Everclear, anyone?
Anyhow. Good Charlotte doesn’t seem to know how to make a song work without a huge climactic chorus. “East Coast Anthem” is okay standing in wait for “Festival Song”. Blink 182 has brought the punk-wussy-pop-song back to the front of our minds, clipping bills out of our pockets.
Good Charlotte has no worries about pulling the same stunts. “I Heard You” is cleverly written, but my favorite track is hidden somewhere in the back. It’s a super-sweet love song to an unlikely subject: Mom. “Thank You, Mom” is beautiful. It shows Good Charlotte can be as good and tender as they can be smart asses.
