CORPORATE LINE: After writing and/or producing for The Used, Story of the Year, Mest and Good Charlotte, John Feldmann returns his own pop-punk kamikaze band Goldfinger to the sonic wars with Disconnection Notice. After ten years, several indie albums and thousands of shows–including last summer’s Reading Festival performing before 80,000 fans-Goldfinger’s first Maverick disc finds the magic touch.
THE GREAT:
“My Everything” – It’s great that the old dog can still teach all the new dogs a thing or two. Goldfinger rocks!
“Too Many Nights” – Something old and something new—irregardless it works well.
“Damaged” – Lovely and certainly going to earn them some teenage fans.
THE AVERAGE:
“Wasted” – Typical nonsense about getting drunk—like we’ve never heard that before.
“Ocean Size” – The issue isn’t if it’s good or bad, we’ve heard it before. Goldfinger seem too good to keep reaching in the same bag of tricks.
THE BAD:
Nothing.
FRANKLY: Goldfinger is a band that tried forever to get to the top—they are still trying. Throughout they’ve are respected by everyone. Disconnection Notice isn’t going to go a long way in making them stars however it doesn’t detract from the respect they get. It’s too bad Goldfinger doesn’t once and for all prove they are more than a one-dimensional punk-pop band the way Green Day has proven.
