Corporate Line: This past spring, Gob took a major label step forward when they signed with Arista Records. The ink on the contract had barely dried when they entered a Los Angeles studio to record their Arista debut, Foot in Mouth Disease.
Style: Punk-pop.
The Good:
Nothing to get hot about.
The Marginal:
“Give Up The Grudge” – The lyrics are sparse, but send a good message.
“I’ve Been Up These Steps” – Mildly entertaining punk.
“Fed Up” – A chance for you to catch your breath. This isn’t quite a ballad, and if it was intended to be then they missed the mark.
“Ming Tran” – Its fast, has the certain punk-rock flavor but goes nowhere.
“I Cut Myself, Too” – There isn’t anything that is going to stir you.
The Bad:
Nothing to get upset about.
Frankly: Gob seems to have suffered the sophomore slump. Foot In Mouth Disease doesn’t have the energy of their previous release nor of the usual punk record. Instead there seems to be no urgency or passion, instead leaving you feeling blah.
