Ghostface Killah – Supreme Clientele

Ghostface Killah
Artist: Ghostface Killah
Title: Supreme Clientele
Label: Epic
Rating: 6/10

Ghostface Killah might not be as well known as Method Man or Ol’ Dirty Bastard, and there just might be a reason for that. Supreme Clientele boasts beats by the master of the digital, RZA. The music is fabulous, but often monotonous. A few tracks seem to blend right into the next.

“Saturday Nite” is funky as hell, but it isn’t until “Apollo Kids” that I really began to get into the album. Raekwon joins Ghostface in the lyrical assault. “Buck 50” brings on some major contributors: Cappadonna, Method Man, Masta Killah, and Redman. However, the hook isn’t hot and it’s only the individual parts that are worthwhile. RZA pulls out another nice piece of music on “Deck’s Bat”. It’s just too bad it outshines the rest of the track.

Want to hear a wasted track? Try “Malcolm”. You might laugh once, but that is about it. That almost completely sums up the rest of this album. It’s good the first turn, but after that it wears you down, that is until you reach the seventeenth track. It’s unlisted and one of the best. Then comes the hilarious song about the big boss of Sony, Tommy Mattola. Still, most of the time this album is basically uneventful.
