Gabrielle sings “I’m ready to rise again” on “Rise”. Oh, how true that line is. Gabrielle isn’t as well known as her hit single, “Dreams”, but now she’s back and ready to rise to new heights.
Gabrielle’s voice is as positive as the song “Sunshine”. The song marches on, from beginning to end. “When A Woman” is airy and free, taking us back to days of shag rugs and lava lamps.
With a little remix, “5 O’ Clock” could be a fantastic dance jam. “Should I Stay” is tender. The song makes you want to throw your arms around Gabrielle and tell her everything is going to be okay.
Gabrielle tackles a lot of emotions on her sophomore album, Rise. Whether she wins, loses, or just gets a few things off of her chest, I only know that her emotions are worn on her sleeve. “Gonna Get Better” triumphs as the album closer. I’m glad someone has finally taken a step at being more positive without exploiting everything at the same time.
