Fishbone is back, and would you believe they sound rejuvenated? They’re as funky as ever and “Shaky Ground”
gets them going quite solidly. Even Donny Osmond gets in on the act. Talk about bizarre.
Many artists, like Jane’s Addiction, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and No Doubt, idolize Fishbone and somewhere on this album they all show up. Most impressive are all of the guests on “Everybody Is A Star”
. You get Gwen Stefani (No Doubt), George Clinton, Rick James, and Perry Farrell (Jane’s Addiction). It’s not “We Are The World”, but it’s very intriguing nonetheless. The jam toward the end is worth the wait.
Lead vocalist Angelo Moore sounds great, even at his silliest. “It’s All Startin’ Over Again” is fun. “Dear God” finds trumpet player “Dirty Walt” Kibby singing lead. His voice is deep, dark, and soulful. If anything, Fishbone’s latest is entertaining.
