Having the luck of getting to hang with these guys, I know their deep love of music and that they have the talent to make something great. They are suckers for the huge choruses like those we’ve grown accustomed to from groups like Oasis. Thus, tracks like “You’re An Ocean”. Also to consider is their love for hard rock acts like AC/DC, those who mix distortion with candied choruses as in “This Is Not My Life”. Well, it’s a little watered down, but close enough for Fastball.
Fastball’s power in its two-pronged attack as the songs rotate from Miles Zuniga and Tony Scalzo’s originally penned and sung works. Scalzo shows his potent melodic fight on “You’re An Ocean”, a song that has a hook that lasts and lasts and lasts. You get the picture. Zuniga brings it in reverse with “Vampires”, chiming along poetically without a true chorus to be found.
Most of The Harsh Light Of Day points to “You’re An Ocean”. These guys are more talented than this. To offer such a bland effort is beyond comprehension.
