FILE UNDER: The O-Town star is back for act two.
THE GOOD:
“Beautiful Lie” – Angel lacks good lyrics, however he makes it up with a nice melody that sticks in your head.
THE AVERAGE:
“Who Cares?” – If Angel can write more songs like this he might have a bright future as he gets into a tripper style and gets away from the straight-ahead rock that doesn’t work for him.
“Along The Way” – Maybe my ears are deceiving me, but Angel must be spending time listening to Pink Floyd?
“Soundtrack To Your Life” – Obviously Ashley likes Third Eye Blind because his chorus is borrowed straight from 3EB with the affected vocal style and all.
“Let U Go” – The hook isn’t bad and yet there is something missing. It sounds like Ashley is trying too hard to be something he isn’t—a rock artist. He always seems to be trying to catch up to the manic pace of the instruments.
“I’m Better” – A sappy lovelorn pop song set to a torrid of guitars.
THE BAD:
“Crazy Beautiful” – The verses are poor and the chorus tries to recuperate but it can’t get past the weaknesses.
FRANKLY: Sadly the story of Ashley Parker Angel’s demise is more interesting than the material he got out of it. If only Soundtrack of your Life was half as interesting as his MTV show he’d be on to something.
