Eve – Scorpion

Eve
Artist: Eve
Title: Scorpion
Label: Interscope
Rating: 7/10

Eve is the femme fatale of the Ruff Ryders’ crew. On her sophomore release, she employed the hard hitting beats of all sorts, like Swizz Beats on “Cowboy” and “Got What You Need.” Swizz has some seriously hardcore signature beats. Dr. Dre also gets in on the act with “Let Me Blow Ya Mind” which guests Gwen Stefani. This is certain to tear up the airwaves. Dre isn’t done here. He adds an old school tempo for Eve and Styles Of The Lox to get off on “That’s What It Is”.

Da Brat, Trina, and Eve roll call through “Gangsta Bitches”. DMX burns and burns until the land is barren and all you can do is “Scream Double R”. Eve gets rasta-fied with the Marleys (Damian and Stephen) on “No, No, No”.

With all the darkness that surrounds Scorpian, there are spots where the light shines brightly as with “Life Is So Hard”. Eve sees the world through eyes not all of us can understand. But she has a way of opening it up so that we can understand what it must be like to be Eve.
