Corporate Line: Take 5 seconds to catch your breathc..It’s hard to believe, but the multi-talented icon Missy Elliott is about to top herself! Missy’s latest ass-shaking, fat-jiggling, back-breaking opus, Pass That Dutch, was welcomed at all formats on radio today with instantaneous on-air spins. Pass That Dutch is the first single from the superstar’s upcoming 5th studio album, This Is Not A Test.
Guests on the album include Jay-Z, Monica, Fabolous, Elephant Man, and The Clark Sisters. Producers include Craig Brockman, Nisan Stewart, Soul Diggaz, and, of course, Missy and Timbaland.
The Good:
“Dats What I’m Talkin About” – Oddly the best track is Missy singing with R. Kelly.
The Average:
“Pass That Dutch” – The beats are hitting and Missy sounds on. The problem is the weak chorus and weak rhymes.
“Wake Up” – Missy rhyming about it being alright for the common folk to make it while she is living with the rich and has money to blow like water flow. It’s not very interesting.
“Keep It Movin” – Missy sounds ordinary.
The Ugly:
“Toyz” – You’d think a song about vibrators would be more interesting.
“Don’t Be Cruel” – Missy biting rhymes from Salt ‘N’ Pepa doesn’t do it.
Frankly: Missy Elliott has been nothing short of extraordinary. This Is Not A Test has been released just in time for the holiday shopping season the problem is that it is very ordinary. Missy has never sounded this average in her career. The record sounds rushed and done without much imagination. It has an old school vibe that never quite sounds as fun as it could have been.
