Eden’s Crush – Popstars

Eden's Crush
Artist: Eden’s Crush
Title: Popstars
Label: Sire
Rating: 6.5/10

By now you’ve certainly heard of Eden’s Crush, otherwise known as Popstars. The album has a host of well-known producers brought together to make sure this million-dollar investment was more than just the Monkees.

One thing the Monkees had, that Eden’s Crush seemingly lack, were huge hits. Eden’s Crush has a few good tracks, but nothing that would make you think ‘this is a super hit’. The most well song, and one of the album’s best, is “Get Over Yourself”. It’s no “Daydream Believer” and I guess the bigger question is ‘will this song even be remembered after this year is out?’. I don’t believe so.

Eden’s Crush do have a few songs that get by. “It Wasn’t Me” is a hot latin track that proves to be more of a single than “Get Over Yourself”. “Love This Way” is a sweet, seductive ballad, but it’s not going to stop traffic. “I Wanna Be Free” is a stronger ballad not just for its hook, but musically it breathes more passion.

Maybe we are looking for too much from Eden’s Crush. I know I was expecting a really show stopping album, but it’s just not there. Perhaps we need to let these girls come into their own before making any rush judgments. However, for all the top-notch people involved I’m a little surprised this album isn’t much better. The Sheila E. cover “Glamorous Life” is proof positive they didn’t have the amount of quality songs available. It’s a decent cover song, but we want more than covers from these girls.
