Company Line: 5th studio album from EELS, the ever-changing project of singer/songwriter & multi-instrumentalist “E” (who is actually called Mark Oliver Everett on his birth certificate).
The Good:
Nothing.
The Marginal:
“All In A Day’s Work” – Starts off as a blues number and turns into Beck. Huh? What happened to this guy?
“Saturday Morning” – As simple as a rock song gets. Nothing too exciting.
“The Good Old Days” and “Love Of The Loveless” – Everyone has seemed to hitch their wagon on Beck and E has gone off the deep end.
The Ugly:
“Fashion Awards” – Embarrassing.
Take your pick.
Frankly: Eels drop the ball. Shootenanny sounds like a poor man’s Beck, if not worse. Even a poor Beck is better than this. I have no idea what was going through E’s mind hopefully it was better than this. Boo. If E wanted to embarrass himself he’s done a damn good job.
