Elbow – Cast of Thousands

Elbow
Artist: Elbow
Title: Cast of Thousands
Label: V2
Rating: 5/10

Corporate Line: Now on new LP, Cast of Thousands and with a weight of experience behind them that is surely unique for a band making only its second album, they have come up with a record even more adventurous and startling in its panoramic sweep and emotional potency.

Sounds like: Spiritualized crossed breed with Super Furry Animals.

The Good:
Nothing worth mentioning.

The Average:
Ribcage Slowly drifted in and out of conscious.
Fallen Angel There seems to be this slow trance perhaps hypnotic – style.
Switching Off Lovely but monotonous. I was switching off maybe it was nodding off.
Buttons And Zips An attempt at capturing the zany Super Furry Animal spirit with too much flattery.

The Ugly:
Snooks Destroyed by sound. Why overshadowing the song with terrifying electro-sounds? It has a devastating effect.

Frankly: Some artists are made for a rainy day. What exactly is Elbow made for? They come off as boring and lost in a world unto themselves. No matter how much you enjoy the musings and lovely choruses you have to wonder if you are ready, willing and able to take this long, slow journey again.
