How do you like your metal? Do you like it pounding your skull into mush or do you like it melodic? Drowning Pool seemed to have found a middle ground and they are going to exploit it for everything they’re worth.
“Sinner” bombs you with melody while burying you alive in metal. “Bodies” springs out of a cymbal and explodes into a firefight. I can’t say I like the lamer intro when they spit out “let the bodies hit the floor” to open the track, but by the time the chorus crushes you, it’s all elementary. I was quite surprised by “Tear Away”. It’s got one hell of a tight groove while hitting you smooth with the vocals.
Drowning Pool doesn’t just growl, they can rock, and “Pity” is proof of that. But they still like to explode as much as possible. “I Am” is relentless and then you just get destroyed by “Follow”. Perhaps the album’s most poignant moment comes in the end as “Sermon” asks where God was during many points in their lives when feeling quite down and out.
Wind-up records may have found themselves another huge group. Look out metal, here comes the next in line to save your asses.
