DJ Skribble
Artist: DJ Skribble
Title: Essential Mix 2000
Label: Atlantic
Rating: 5.5/10

Essential Dance 2000 is the fourth in a running series called Essential, highlighting the hottest dj’s from around the global. The dj who brought you beats on Mtv’s “Global Groove”, “Yo! MTV Raps”, “The Grind”, and even a Playstation dj video game, is back to make you dance. If you were an avid watcher of Mtv, then you know his style and mixing skills are beyond words. This guy has done what many dj’s can only dream about, and that’s to making a living as a dj. He’s earned respect from a wide range of artists that include Craig Mack, Notorious B.I.G., Anthrax, and Chemical Brothers, all who have asked Skribble to warm up their audiences. Now with the release of Essential Dance 2000, he writes another chapter to his already successful career.

Skribble’s sets have an unmatched flair as he combines electronica, house, rap, and hip-hop all into one mix. Most of the songs that appear on this continuous mix are Top 40 dance and club tunes that I’m sure you’ll recognize once you hear them. This cd would be absolutely perfect to throw in if your party needs a major pick-me-up. The wide range of music featured is sure to tickle any music lover’s taste buds.

The disc starts out on the housey side with a handful of Top 40 dance tunes that just plain pump out bumpin’ house beats. Universal club favorites like “That Sound” by Michael Moog and a remix of Cher’s “Believe” are masterfully mixed back to back in a stunning fashion, showing why Skribble is one of the most requested dj’s week after week. With the flick of Skribble’s cross fader, the house beats are quickly erased by electronica and progressive house. Check out the ultra cool electronica version of Filter’s “Take My Picture (Club 69 future mix)” while trying to maintain composure as the mix glides into “Bodyrock (Dean Honer remix)” by electronic king Moby. The last portion of the mix is dominated by the sounds of progressive house with artists such as ATB, William Orbit, and DJ Jurgen putting a spring into your step.

When it comes down to it, this mix is just pure fun. If you’re not into trance or hard pounding beats but like to dance, look no further than DJ Skribble’s Essential Dance 2000.
