DMX is perhaps the scariest thing on wax. Don’t let that glammed up Marilyn Manson steal your dreams when you have DMX to haunt your nights. And Then There Was X is a street fight in progress. And with three albums in two years, DMX doesn’t seem ready to stop.
“What’s My Name” is like a punch in the eye. “One More Road To Cross” is a kick in the stomach, while “More 2 A Song” is a verbal assault on your thought process. DMX is a lyrical terror, but he also speaks a lot of truths, dark cynical truths. Truths our parents wouldn’t like to hear. Truths I didn’t like to hear.
“Here We Go Again” is disturbing. “Angel” is moving. “Party Up” is chest-thumping swagger. DMX is seemingly unstoppable. The rough throaty rhymes and the non-stick flow glide into your ears and grind through your mind. DMX is the heart and this album is the soul.
