After singing backup for Aretha Franklin and singing with Voices Of Unity, Damita was scooped up by Atlantic Records. Her voice is potent, soulful, and ready for her prime time spot.
Damita comes out with a rock and R&B mix on “Truth” that’s much like En Vogue’s hit, “Free Your Mind”. “Life” brings it down a notch and slow dances you into “Spirit Inside”. “Calvary” is a little too Celine Dion for me. “Hold On To Your Faith” allows Damita to go off. She lets the words come out. Her vocal power will have you shivering. She strays into gospel as “I Can Feel Him” tickles your soul.
Damita has a great voice. Atlantic is hyping her as the best voice they’ve ever heard, but that’s insane. You have to try and get press for your artist, but that kind of pressure isn’t good for a newcomer. Damita needs a few things before she can take over the world and R&B; first is better songs, second is the ability to show off this voice Atlantic Records is bragging about. Perhaps then we can start talking history.
