Passion Pit announces tour with Muse

Passion Pit
Passion Pit
Having turned in an ecstatic singalong sunset performance for an estimated 30,000 revelers on the opening day of this year’s Coachella festival, Passion Pit’s 2010 tour has been extended through the fall with the addition of a series of arena dates supporting Muse. The Muse tour will follow Passion Pit’s summer swing through their largest U.S. headline run to date and a handful of festival appearances in Canada, Japan, Australia and the UK.

In the more immediate future, Passion Pit will perform at the Earth Day Network’s 2010 Climate Rally on the National Mall in Washington DC this Sunday, April 25. Passion Pit will join a musical lineup featuring Sting, Bob Weir, The Roots, Booker T, Mavis Staples, Jimmy Cliff and more, as well as speakers ranging from the NFL’s Dhani Jones to Oscar winning director James Cameron, in commemorating the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. The 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Climate Rally will stream live on

Originally conceived as a dorm room recording project by Michael Angelakos, Passion Pit currently consists of Angelakos, Ian Hultquist, Ayad Al Adhamy, Nate Donmoyer and Jeff Apruzzese. Its first full length album, Manners, was released in May 2009 to rave reviews and a #51 debut on the Billboard albums chart and was re-released April 13 in a deluxe format featuring multiple bonus tracks. On the strength of the irresistible hooks of “The Reeling,” “Little Secrets” and current single “Sleepyhead,” as well as a rapidly burgeoning live draw, Manners has sold over 160,000 copies since its release last spring and is closing in on a full year on the Top 200.

Liars announce tour dates and Pitchfork Festival

Having reached the near-end of a successful East and West Coast tour run, which began at SXSW 2010 and saw Liars perform two sold-out shows in NYC as well as a sold-out show in their current home Los Angeles, Liars announce a 2nd string of tour dates to commence July 2010. This tour sees Liars hitting the middle states and is marked by their special appearance at the Pitchfork Festival July 16th, 2010.

Of their recent SXSW performance Pitchfork said “It’s tough to overstate Andrew’ abilities as a frontman…Andrew uses every bit of his big frame to convey a constant evil insanity. But there’s still a strong sense of control to what he and his band do onstage. If I ever manage to lose my mind entirely, I hope the voices in my head sound something like this band.” August Brown of the Los Angeles Times writes “Angus Andrew is a stringy-haired, gravel-voiced prophet of doom…He trawls the stage… it’s clear he’s having the time of his life up there.” of Liars Live while Rolling Stone proclaims they are “Working their way up to art rock legacy.”

Liars recently joined Beck, Annie Clark and Daniel Hart from St Vincent, Sergio Dias from legendary Brazilian band Os Mutantes and Brian Lebarton for Beck’s Record Club 4, covering the 1987 album, Kick by INXS. Beck’s Record Club is an “informal meeting of various musicians to record an album in a day”. The results are posted, track by track at, the first track Guns In The Sky is online now. Angus, talking about Beck’s Record Club said, “it is a rare opportunity for completely selfless collaboration and an extremely interesting and unique project that was an absolute pleasure to participate in.”

Liars release a brand new single, The Overachievers, on May 25th. Backed with two brand new tracks, Pleasure Is Boss and Only Sometimes plus Devendra Banhart & The Grogs’s reinterpretation of the single. Liars’ own Aaron Hemphill directs the forthcoming video for The Overachievers. The Overachievers is taken from Sisterworld, the band’s critically acclaimed fifth album, NME said “…this incredible album is your passport to a better place.” and Uncut said “impressive… focused and relevant”. Sisterworld is out now on CD, 2CD version with very special packaging and on a deluxe vinyl edition double 180gram heavy vinyl and CD with two booklets.

The second disc of the 2CD release sees each track on Sisterworld remixed and reinterpreted by a host of artists including Thom Yorke, Atlas Sound, Blonde Redhead, Fol Chen and Alan Vega while the unique packaging, designed by Brian Roettinger / Hand Held Heart (Grammy nominated and Rolling Stone award winning for his work with No Age) allows a surreal glimpse into the Sisterworld concertina.

Sisterworld has already met with extensive critical praise including an 8.1/Best New Music distinction from Pitchfork and IS CURRENTLY a *5 on the CMJ Top 200 Chart. New York Magazine says “With ‘Sisterworld,’ the band have found a balance, providing both exceptional standalone moments and a unifying theme,” and The Los Angeles Times says “Bands that do what they want to do because they believe in it – and trust the intelligence of their listeners – are the future. That is the brave new world of Liars”

Sisterworld, Liars’ boldest and most exhilarating record to date, is a dense art-pop thrill from start to finish. Sisterworld is Liars’ own space, completely devoid of influence, somewhere remote from the false promises and discarded dreams amassed in LA. In it Liars explore the underground support systems created to deal with loss of self to society. Liars are Angus Andrew, Aaron Hemphill and Julian Gross.

Camera Can’t Lie set to tour with Jason Castro

Camera Can't Lie
Camera Can't Lie
Atlantic Records artist Camera Can’t Lie will be embarking on a tour with labelmate Jason Castro to promote their five track EP entitled Days & Days. Camera Can’t Lie is comprised of high school friends Eric Arjes (Vocals/Guitar), Kyle Lindsay (Bass), and hard-hitting drummer Josh Bendell. “These songs are an accumulation of the last five years of our lives. I think that’s why we are so attached to what we’ve created and why it’s impossible to peg this album with just one theme. This album is, in so many words, about finding hope in chaos, focusing on the present, speaking with actions instead of words, putting your heart on the line, dealing with internal struggle, and risking the safe and the comfortable for a chance at greatness. It is a play-by-play of our journey as a band, and I couldn’t be more proud,” says Arjes. They are a band built by the road for the road. They came from the Midwest but their home is the stage. Heartfelt and unabashed music lovers, they go by the motto: “We are strugglers, sinners, gentlemen, and fighters.” Philanthropic through and through, they have donated an acoustic version of Radiohead’s “High & Dry” for the Biggest Label Ever that creates awareness for the Invisible Children program. There will much more to come from Camera Can’t Lie as they are finishing up their debut record, produced by Ron Aniello (Lifehouse, Guster). /

The Constellations to release “Southern Gothic” and tour dates

The Constellations
The Constellations
The Constellations will release their debut album Southern Gothic on EMI’s Virgin Records on June 22. Rising stars of the Atlanta scene, the band–which is fronted by charismatic vocalist Elijah Jones–is set for a breakout year in 2010. Southern Gothic was produced by Ben H. Allen (Animal Collective, Gnarls Barkley), and features guest appearances by Cee-Lo and Asher Roth.

Following recent opening slots with Snoop Dogg, Hockey, Greyboy Allstars and RJD2, The Constellations will continue to tour extensively throughout the summer, including performances at major festivals such as Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and Mile High. The band was named one of SPIN’s “Must Hear Bands At SXSW,” and PASTE’s “Best of What’s Next.” They are also currently featured as one of iheartradio’s “Artists To Watch.”

Southern Gothic is all about what happens in The Constellations’ Atlanta stomping grounds afterhours, a spectacle rife with seedy scenes and eccentric personalities, and propelled by a manic energy that hustles the audience deeper into the unexpected. Your tour guide on this madcap adventure is the magnetic frontman and vocalist Elijah Jones–the ringleader of the twisted circus that is The Constellations–who spent two years writing and recording the album with producer Ben H. Allen.

“Atlanta is strange,” says Jones, “because we’re all basically pushed together.” The hip-hop heads, punk rockers, and indie kids all rub shoulders and mix it up. Southern Gothic reflects that inclusive diversity in its far-reaching sound. One expects nothing less from a singer who cites Tom Waits and Cee-Lo of Goodie Mob and Gnarls Barkley as his musical heroes, working with a producer who name-checks Fela Kuti and Gorillaz among their record’s key influences.

The band’s name refers to the myriad musicians from the regional scene who either contributed to making the album or have since played in The Constellations live band. One luminary who drops in is Cee-Lo, who added a verse to the electro-rocker “Love Is A Murder.” Another guest is suburban rapper Asher Roth, lending his playful rhymes to “We’re Here To Save The Day.” Other highlights include the funk number “Felicia,” for which Jones drew inspiration from the laidback ’70s vignettes of Iggy Pop and Lou Reed, and the album’s centerpiece, “Step Right Up (A Tribute To Tom Waits).”
