Why should California Gurls have all the fun? Jessie James carries the torch for southern pop, as the 22-year-old Georgia girl comes with the heat on “Boys in the Summer,” the first single from her sophomore Mercury Records album, on sale now at digital retailers including iTunes!
Co-written by Jessie with James Michael (Motley Crue, Papa Roach, Alanis Morissette), and opening with some bluesy rock guitar riffs right out of ZZ Top, “Boys in the Summer” imagines it’s “hot as hell, even in the shade,” while squeezing out a little bit of lemonade, standing on line at the Dairy Queen or laying on the hood of your car.
Jessie explains the simple meaning behind the sassy lyrics: “It was inspired by an ex-boyfriend who I wasn’t really attracted to until the summer,” she laughs. “That’s when he had a tan and a little bit more muscle from being in the sun.” A perfect summer party jam, the single impacts at Top 40 radio on July 12th, at pop and country radio on July 13th, and at Hot AC on July 19th.
Singer Jessie James adds another incredible gig to her growing resume –dates on the road with the biggest musical act of today -The Jonas Brothers! Jessie has been tapped to host the first four shows, beginning June 20 in Dallas TX at New Cowboys Stadium. She will introduce each act on the bill and will perform her hit “Wanted” as well. In addition, the “Wanted” video will be featured in the show. Other acts on the bill include Honor Society and Jordin Sparks.
The tour comes just as her Steve Madden Music campaign kicks into high gear. Beginning June 1, this 60 day promotion utilizes the fashion giant’s retail network of 97 stores to promote Jessie through in-store signage and video play. They are also using their impressive online presence across www.stevemadden.com and www.stevemaddenmusic.com to showcase photos and video content with Jessie and allow fans to purchase the single and album from the site. Previous artists featured in this initiative include Katy Perry and Lady Gaga.
“Wanted” has been growing at radio with over 80 stations on board, with markets such as Atlanta, Dallas, Charlotte, Nashville, Providence, Orlando, Kansas City, Houston, Pittsburgh, and Hartford leading the way. iTunes featured the sultry “Wanted” video as the “Video Of The Week” recently and over 200,000 fans downloaded it. It was also AOL’s Video Of The Day on May 20. The single has sold over 50,000 units in the last three weeks. And now with The Jonas Brothers tour, Jessie has begun her rise to the top of pop.
Jessie’s self-titled debut album is set for release July 28th. Recorded in Los Angeles, New York, Nashville, and London, the album takes off with “Wanted”, the full-throttle dance-rock scorcher that Jessie co-wrote with American Idol judge and hit songwriter Kara DioGuardi (along with Mitch Allen and David Hodges). There’s also “Bullet”, a catchy rock gem co-written with pal Katy Perry, and “My Cowboy”, the twangy track first raved about last summer by Perez Hilton on http://perezhilton.com/2008-07-21-listen-to-this-ride-em-good. Another featured song is the soulful ballad “Burning Bridges” which shows additional depth to James’ powerful voice.
