Ocean’s Eleven

Ocean’s Eleven
Cast: George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, Catherine Zeta-Jones
Studio: Warner Bros.
Rating: 5/10

Ocean’s Eleven is a loose remake of a film made way back when the Rat Pack was where it was at. That version had a fantastic ensemble of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. and more. The film had a lot of star power, but not much else. The 2001 version is the same in one way, and close in another.

There is definitely star power here. You’ve got George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Andy Garcia, Matt Damon, and more. Impressive for sure.

The plot finds Danny Ocean (George Clooney) released from prison with a plan to rob a casino for roughly one hundred and fifty million dollars. And then they’re off. The rest of the film really gets caught in the net of bad plots and a sense that we’ve seen it all before. Where is the pizzazz? Where is the acting? Where in the hell is the quality script? You mean you’ve assembled a who’s who of talent and you can’t even give them a good vehicle?

Director Steve Soderbergh (Traffic and Erin Brockovich) makes a champion’s effort to put out a quality picture – and believe me, the film looks great – but beautiful on the outside doesn’t mean beauty on the inside.
