Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Black Arrow

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Black Arrow
Game: Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Black Arrow
Platform: Xbox
Studio: Ubi Soft
Rating: 9/10

GAME STUDIO DESCRIPTION: A series of attempts to kidnap telemetry and rocket scientists pulls Team Rainbow into a spiderweb of international intrigue. An international cabal of renegade military officers is trying to create a war in the oil-rich regions around the Black Sea, giving them an excuse to swoop in and seize control. Team Rainbow must stop the terrorists from developing weapons of mass destruction and prevent them from starting a devastating war.

Key Features
New single-player campaign: With new diversified and challenging objectives set in beautiful Mediterranean and Eastern European level environments.

Improved, smarter AI terrorists: Watch them call for backup when they are outnumbered or use hostages as human shields. Plus, these guys are fully funded… they have tons of RPGs, grenades, and more.

New game modes for single-player and multiplayer:
Lone Rush: The player must complete objectives with the countdown clock ticking.
Total Conquest: Teams battle to capture and hold designated points on the map.
Retrieval: Teams must race to the center to take possession of the special object, and defend it as they carry it back to their compound.

Black Arrow will be one of the first games to offer the new Xbox Live™ features:
In-game player competitions and tournaments created by users.

Players will be able to message friends while they are playing using MSN Messenger.
New clan features including clan statistics and competition, clan visual differentiation.
The new Online Storage ability will allow players to create artwork like arm patches, as well as rosters and Friends Lists.

New tactics for online multiplayer: Black Arrow will offer new private team lobbies where players can use a planning interface to develop strategies before online matches begin.

GRAPHICS: Much like the game play the graphics for Black Arrow aren’t much different than its predecessors. There are different maps, but there are similarities in the environments. That doesn’t mean its bad—in fact it’s quite good.

PLAY: Black arrow consists of ten new environments: streets of Milan, a subway, nuclear reactor, and more. Much of the gameplay is similar to the original versions so there isn’t much of a learning curve. The team oriented combat is top notch—how can you ignore the amazing ability to send out commands and have them followed by the computer. What makes Black Arrow fun and incredibly hard is the fact that you’ve got to use your head and not make hasty decisions when under pressure.

You’ll have a plethora of weapons at your disposal, but use only what you need. If you get crazy and throw grenades in the wrong situation you might find yourself drawing more attention than you need. The shooting is exactly as its predecessors—don’t fix what isn’t broken.

The ability to play live with friends is by far the best aspect. You can also use your headset to give orders to the CPU—an easier and more realistic experience. There are different modes that add value: multiplayer is well done and a must play. There is survival mode to see which of your friends can survive the longest and another is sharpshooter and total conquest. One of my favorites is retrieval which is similar to capture the flag.

SOUND: It’s a reoccurring theme—this is a lot like the past Tom Clancy releases. You hear everything from radio communications to gun fire and its all very realistic.

FRANKLY: Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Black Arrow is wonderful, deep, and a must buy for anyone that loved any of the past Rainbow Six releases. This is one of the best all around games on the market today. Out!
