Shenmue has been called the savior of the Dreamcast. If that’s true, then they have succeeded.
Look:
Glorious. Grand. You can’t even imagine. Those are just a few of the thoughts I had as I walked through this visual masterpiece. And since I know there is no such thing as perfection, I can forgive the few camera glitches and the occasional flutters because the characters and detailed cities and towns are mind-blowing. This is as real as it gets.
Feel:
It looks real, and it feels just as good. The 3D world feels boundless. You may roam wherever you wish. I get goosebumps just thinking about it. The exploration alone will leave you frustrated in the best possible way, because you soon realize there isn’t enough leisure time to possibly do everything this game allows. The most amazing thing to me is the ability of your character, RYO, to pick up objects. The detail is pristine.
Sound:
The voices are actually good. Finally, a game you don’t get annoyed by. And the soundtrack is top notch. You’ll never get bored with these fine pieces.
Finally:
Games of this type often lack in the longevity department, but you won’t lose interest with Shenmue any time soon. You’ll need to give the game another try just to find the things you missed the first time around.
