Stir – Holy Dogs

Stir
Artist: Stir
Title: Holy Dogs
Label: Capitol
Rating: 4.5/10

Track #

1. Superstation Sounds okay, but I can’t get into it. It’s just too much ’80’s cheese. Music rating: 7/10; lyrics/vocals: 2/10

2. Climbing The Walls More rehashed music. There is nothing original to speak of and that’s annoying in its self. 4/10

3. Velvet Elvis A very good piece. The drums are large and finally they don’t sound like a cover band. 6.5/10

4. New Beginning Nice. 5.5/10

5. Only A Dream The album is getting stronger. This track might creep along slower than those previous, but Andrew Schmidt shows you what he has with his best vocal performance. 7/10

6. Spaceman I’m sick of songs that carry the same title, but this song is okay. 5/10

7. Stop Killing Me Reverts back to the rock clich. 4.5/10

8. Help Sounds so familiar. 5/10

9. Grounded Schmidt starts off singing “sitting in your room alone/ playing with yourself/ do you like it?” Lame. 3/10

10. Moon Average. 5/10

11. Clear Slower, yet more interesting. 6/10

12. Holy Dogs I don’t know why they named their album after this stinker. Stone Temple Pilots did this nine years ago. It worked then; now it’s boring. 4/10

I feel the Foreigner and Journey bloodlines here and it’s really annoying. I almost couldn’t hack this album after more than a few listens. The only songs that I enjoyed were “Velvet Elvis” and “Only A Dream”.
