Lil’ Troy ‘s blazing debut album, Sittin’ Fat Down South, on Troy’s very own label, Short Stop Records, is blowing up radio stations across the South! The hot single “Wanna Be A Baller” is a tight mix of soulful sounds and R&B tunes backing up classic hip-hop rhymes: “…hit the highway/ making money the fly way/ but there’s gotta be a betta way…” And Troy’s cool demeanor laying back on the couch tells us that there is “a betta way” – blessing the mic, that is.
Hailing from South Park, Houston, Troy Birklett a.k.a. Lil’ Troy comes from a family of musicians. Following in the family tradition, Troy quickly learned to play the saxophone and guitar which he played in a band after high school. When the band broke up, Troy and his producer Bruce “Grim” Rhodes, put out a song with then DJ Akshun; that song was “Scarface” and DJ Akshun, today, still carries that name, Scarface – see that, game recognizes game!
After a triflin’ short-lived deal with London/Payday Records, Troy was left with a lot of tracks and no rappers. In the search for a hit-making MC, Troy the producer picked up the mic and laced the rhymes himself, becoming Lil’ Troy the rapper. “Where’s The Love’s” 2Pac-esque sound, and Troy’s singing in “Still A Bitch” proves his skills as an MC, and as a musician, so don’t sleep! Maybe that’s why Lil Troy, from the top of the regional charts, is sittin’ fat down south.
