Boston’s Halfcocked will unveil their major-label debut album, The Last Star, June 12, 2001. The band is the first signing to Megatronic Records, which is presided over by Powerman 5000 frontman Spider One in conjunction with DreamWorks Records. Spider calls the quintet “a combination of AC/DC, Cheap Trick, Guns N’ Roses and Blondie.”

Produced by Ulrich Wild (Deftones, Buckcherry, White Zombie), The Last Star will be previewed at radio with “I Lied,” about which singer Sarah Reitkopp says: “Have you ever been in a situation where someone thinks they have the upper hand over you? ‘I Lied’ puts that person in their place.” The video for “I Lied” will be directed by Spider and is scheduled for production in late March.

Formed in early 1997, Halfcocked is fleshed out by Johnny Heatley (guitar), Jaime Richter (guitar, vocals), Regina Zernay (bass) and Charlee Johnson (drums). They caught Spider’s attention with the albums Sell Out and Occupation: Rock Star, both released on Boston independent label Curve Of The Earth.

Occupation: Rock Star was recently nominated for a 2001 Boston Music Award in the category of Debut Album (Indie Label). Halfcocked itself earned a nomination in the category of Rising Star, while Reitkopp received a nod for Female Vocalist (Indie Label).
