Did we really need an album full of Perry Farrell’s greatest hits?
The first track, “Rev”, finds Rage Against The Machine’s maniac guitarist, Tom Morello, shredding while Farrell preaches. Then comes the sacrilege as Farrell tears apart Led Zepplin’s “Whole Lotta Love” with a bunch of techno romps. I am numb.
So much for two new tracks.
Then come the greatest hits. There are six from Jane’s Addiction and eight Porno For Pyros tracks. Unfortunately, many of the songs picked aren’t very good. I mean, was Kettle Whistle that great of an album? It just came out a few years ago, as did Porno For Pyros’ Good God’s Urge. It doesn’t seem necessary to give us these songs again so soon. Give me an album of rarities, and I’m happy. But re-mixes and previous releases thrown on an album, well, that’s simply bad taste. At the very least, add some really good tracks like “Classic Girl” and “Porpoise Head”. Rev is a sham.
