Moby to release Remix Album “Wait For Me. Remixes”

Moby "Wait For Me"On May 18th, Moby will release ‘Wait For Me. Remixes!’, an album consisting of reworked versions of tracks from the critically acclaimed ‘Wait For Me’, released through Mute last year. Moby has enlisted some of dance music’s biggest names for the project including Tiesto, Laidback Luke, Gui Boratto, and Carl Cox.

Tiesto, on his remix…”Its always an honor to remix Moby. He’s a legend and a true electronic music pioneer. I chose “Shot In The Back Of The Head” because it was a track that i’d always enjoyed and connected to emotionally. I wanted to do something a little tougher and darker with the remix. I’m really happy with how it came out.”

Carl Cox commented, “Moby has been such a major part of the electronic scene its always a pleasure to work with him. “Walk with me” stood out instantly as a track on the album I wanted to remix with it’s haunting vocal and spiritual sound, I wanted to really push my limits production wise with this remix. Bringing an electro tinge to the track and a constantly building drum infused bassline which really draws you in, this remix really stands out for me from the style of music I am normally associated with…”

And Laidback Luke said, “’Wait For Me’ instantly grabbed me with the piano melody and the

melancholic atmosphere. I thought back to seeing footage from Moby playing my track ‘Shake It Down’ at Ultra Music Festival during Miami Winter Music Conference. So, I made a techy / melancholic rework / ‘Shake It Down’ type remix!”

‘Wait For Me Remixes’ is released on Mute and will be available on digital download and double disc CD, disc 2 being an exclusive Moby DJ mix.

Preceding the release of the remix album, Moby will release new single ‘Wait For Me’, the title track from the original album, on May 4th. The single comes backed with b-side ‘Gone To Sleep’, a brand new, previously unreleased track, plus an acoustic version of previous single ‘One Time We Lived’, and a hefty remix package including Laidback Luke, Yousef, Paul Kalkbrenner, Jean Elan, Zodiac Cartel, Villa, and Christoffer Berg (Fever Ray). Moby talks about his inspiration for the single…“I was listening to the first Black Flag album, Damaged, and some of the lyrics on that are so despairing and harsh. So I had that little piano riff and I wrote the lyrics around that – it’s just a mournful song of quiet despair, strangely enough inspired by Black Flag. Theoretically, I feel like Henry Rollins could have written the lyrics, even though the song is quiet and pretty. There’s nothing that’s not mournful about the lyrics; there’s no subtlety.”

Moby commissioned a video for ‘Wait For Me’ from previous collaborator Jessica Dimmock, an award winning documentary photographer from NYC who was responsible for the original press shots from the Wait For Me campaign. In addition to this, Moby has launched a video competition on where filmmakers have the chance to make an alternative video for the track.

Moby to release limited edition album “Wait For Me”

moby-waitforme-cover-webMoby is set to release a limited edition deluxe version of his critically acclaimed 2009 album ‘Wait For Me’ on November 24th, 2009 through Mute.

‘Wait For Me Deluxe’ is comprised of three discs, and there will also be a digital deluxe edition available to download. Disc One is the original 16-track album plus two new, previously unreleased bonus tracks (‘One Time We Lived’ and ‘Stay Down’), which Moby recorded especially for the deluxe edition in August 09 in his NYC home studio. One of the tracks, ‘One Time We Lived’, will be the next Moby single released digitally December 8th, 2009.

Disc Two is an ambient version of the original album, 16 brand new interpretations of the original tracks, re-interpreted and re-recorded by Moby. Disc Three is a DVD comprised of live highlights from Moby’s 2009 summer European festival dates, an animated EPK and interview with Moby, plus five videos for songs from Wait For Me, including David Lynch’s animation for ‘Shot in The Back of the Head.’ The DVD also includes 16 ‘blips’ (30 second animations for each of the tracks on the original album).

Since its release earlier this year, ‘Wait For Me’ has won over critics and fans alike on a global scale. David Lynch described the album simply as “beautiful”, NPR’s Bob Boilen called it “His best album in 10 years,” and Rolling Stone calls it a “return to form.”

Moby’s next single ‘One Time We Lived’ will be released digitally on December 8th, 2009. The package includes remixes from Matrix & Futurebound, HiJack, Moguai, Kap Bambino, Sharooz, Laurent Wolf, The Glimmers, and Lulu Rouge. To coincide with the release, Moby has shot a low-fi performance video with his band in NYC, continuing the ‘DIY’ theme of the ‘Wait For Me’ campaign. There will also be an animated video featuring The Little Idiot and his animated band!

Moby is currently touring the US. The live show sees Moby on guitar, piano, percussion and occasionally singing lead. The UK’s Evening Standard called Moby’s a “virtuoso performance” and gave the event a 4-star review. In another 4-star live review, The Guardian UK called the performance “highly entertaining” and “as much a gig for the mind as for the feet.” The Washington Post, in their review of Moby’s live show, said “Although the show included some electro classics, Moby and his five-member band emphasized live music over the synthetic.”

Moby to release “Last Night Remixed” in November

Moby will release “Last Night Remixed” on Mute on November 25, 2008. Enlisted to remix tracks from ‘Last Night’ – the most dance oriented and electronic Moby album this decade – are the current electronic cream of the crop including Holy Ghost!, Freemasons, Seamus Haji, Spencer & Hill, and Drop The Lime among others.

Remixing has been at the heart of the Moby machine for fifteen years. In 1992 alone, Moby mixed The B52s, The Prodigy, Brian Eno, Jam & Spoon, and Michael Jackson. Since then, Moby’s remixed artists including Aerosmith, The Beastie Boys, David Bowie and Metallica.

Moby on remixing:
“One of the best things about producing and remixing other artists is to deconstruct their master tapes and see how they’ve put their songs together. Remixing ‘Beat It’ was amazing, as I was able to deconstruct an iconic song produced by Quincy Jones. It was almost like going back to school. Remixes in 2008 are more important than they’ve ever been and the great thing about the ubiquity of software like Abelton and Logic is that now almost anyone can be a remixer.”

Moby’s music has always found a place on the best dance floors and turntables. And now it’s the new breeds’ turn to try their hand at Moby’s own music. Just as, ‘Go – The Very Best of Moby: Remixed’ (2006) featured classy remakes from Vitalic, Katcha, Armand Van Helden and Mylo, ‘Last Night Remixed’ will continue that tradition.

Hand-picked by Moby, ‘Last Night Remixed’ includes remixes of tracks from his latest album ‘Last Night’ released April 1st, 2008, including ‘I Love To Move In Here’ remixed by both New York disco-punk outfit Holy Ghost! and Seamus Haji, who brings his typical frenetic beats to the track. The Freemasons remix of ‘Disco Lies’ was a hit for everyone from Pete Tong (who opened his show with the mix at the start of August) to Dave Spoon and Carl Cox. Elsewhere, you’ll find bass-driven club mixes from Brooklyn newcomers Drop The Lime, breaks don General Midi, Dutch producer Mason and Sheffield’s D Ramirez.
