Young Miley Cyrus became an overnight sensation in 2006 as the star of the Disney Channel television series Hannah Montana, but fortunately her family has had some experience with that sort of thing — her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, went from obscurity to stardom in a few short months when the song “Achy Breaky Heart” hit the charts in 1992. The success of “Achy Breaky Heart” was hardly the only memorable event for Billy Ray that year — on November 23, 1992, he and his wife welcomed their daughter Destiny Hope Cyrus into the world. Destiny’s cheerful disposition as a child earned her the nickname Smiley, which stuck when it was shortened to Miley. Miley’s career as a professional actress began in 2003, when she appeared in an episode of the television series Doc, which starred her father; the same year, she landed a small role in the Tim Burton film Big Fish.

Miley developed an interest in music early on, writing songs and learning to sing while still a preteen, and in 2005 she landed a role that allowed her to put her skills in acting and music to work. Miley was cast in the title role of Hannah Montana, in which she played a teenage girl leading a double life — by day, she’s Miley Stewart, an ordinary kid dealing with school, her friends, her siblings, and all the other foibles of life for a 14-year-old, while at night she dons a wig and becomes Hannah Montana, a multi-platinum pop star whose career is guided by her dad, Robby Stewart, a successful songwriter. However, Miley’s friends don’t know she’s also Hannah, and keeping this a secret is no simple matter. Debuting in March 2006, Hannah Montana became an immediate success with young viewers, and in October, a soundtrack CD was released, featuring Miley singing eight songs from the show along with five related tracks, including a duet between Miley and her father, Billy Ray, on “I Learned from You.”

That fall, Miley hit the road, wowing audiences as the opening act for another Disney-spawned pop act, the Cheetah Girls, and in March 2007, the Hannah Montana album was reissued in a special edition featuring a bonus DVD, not long after the show’s theme song, “The Best of Both Worlds,” was released as a single. A second Hannah Montana album, Hannah Montana 2/Meet Miley Cyrus, was released in summer 2007. That fall, Cyrus embarked on the Best of Both Worlds tour, which stretched into early 2008 and was edited into The Best of Both Worlds Concert film, which was released that spring. By then Cyrus was busy recording her first full-fledged album as herself, Breakout, as well as shooting Hannah Montana: The Movie, which was slated for release in 2009. Breakout arrived in summer 2008.

Miley Cyrus and Metro Station to tour this fall

The rumors are true! As announced by Miley Cyrus early yesterday morning, the pop superstar will be joined by special guests Metro Station on her upcoming North American tour. The ten-week arena run – launching September 14 in Portland, OR, and running through December 2, in Miami, FL– will mark the first time that Cyrus will tour with her brother Trace, who sings and plays guitar in Metro Station.

Metro Station – Trace Cyrus (vocals, guitar), Mason Musso (vocals, guitar), Blake Healy (keyboards, synth) and Anthony Improgo (percussion) – are currently wrapping up a two week tour of Japan, and later this month will return to Europe for three weeks of dates. In May they completed their most extensive domestic run to date, providing support on Fall Out Boy’s “Believers Never Die” tour.

The band recently completed shooting the video for the new single “Kelsey,” which stars Aimee Teegarden from the NBC series “Friday Night Lights.” The video will premier later this summer.

Miley Cyrus stopped over at AOL’s studios in Los Angeles, CA to perform some of her songs from the Hannah Montana: The Movie Soundtrack. There were performances of “The Climb” and “Full Circle” as well as duets with her father Billy Ray Cyrus. The soundtrack to the movie is available on iTunes now and featured performances from Rascal Flatts, Taylor Swift, Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus.

Her second self titled studio album, Breakout, Miley takes us with her on a Rock’N'Roll journey. The music is infectious and the hits are undeniable! ‘ 7 Things’ is Miley’s Hit single! A perfect follow up to her Top Five radio Smash Hit ‘See You Again’! With three albums released by the age of 15, Miley has already had the level of success that most artists only dream about with over 10 million albums sold! Miley’s first recording Hannah Montana Original Soundtrack Debuted #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and is Certified 3x Platinum. Miley’s second release Hannah Montana 2/Meet Miley Cyrus Debuted #1 on Billboard Hot 100 and it is Certified 6x Platinum.

The good:
“7 Things” – This can’t be compared to anything Avril has done, like so many critics have tried to do, because it’s not possible to take it seriously. All you have to know is that its a huge hit and will be for a long time to come. It is definitely addictive and no matter how hard you try to forget the chorus the more it stays in your head.
“See You Again” – The rare track that doesn’t sound contrived in its attempt to appeal to an older audience.
“These Four Walls” – Might have sounded better in the more capable hands of a country artist like Carrie Underwood.

The rest:
“Breakout” – Another track ripe for top ten radio and will surely be a hit no matter how much it gets hammered by critics and haters. Sure, it’s not great but every little tween will be singing it this summer.
“Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” – A sped up version of the original without the amazing vocals and playfulness.
“Fly On The Wall” – The entire song is weird and doesn’t make any sense. The vocals and music are bizarre. Maybe it’s good that I don’t get it.
“Wake Up America” – If you hear this and laugh its okay–because it is completely ridiculous. A happy pop song about the world falling apart and how every little thing we do matters. In a perfect little world of Hannah Montana this is true–then again if it makes kids care a little more it can’t be so bad.

Finally:
There has to be some concern for parents whose kids are under ten and fans of Hanna or Miley. It appears that the record label is gearing up for a mature Miley. This could be a massive mistake as the little pop princess isn’t the next Avril. The whole makeover might come off like M.C. Hammer trying to be a gangster rapper. My two cents: Keep Miley cute full of sugary pop hits and let her grow up naturally–don’t force her to be Avril when she doesn’t have it in her.
