2008 debut album from the Swedish Pop sensation. Lykke is a name on every one’s lips right now, having released an EP that featured the radio hit ‘Just A Little Bit’. Now signed to the Swedish indie giants Dolores (I’m from Barcelona, Pacific, Caesars, Loney, Dear, etc.), she is about to take the world by storm with Youth Novel, produced by Björn Yttling (Peter Bjorn & John) in New York.

The hits:
“Dance, Dance, Dance” – Madonna might wonder how Li stole her mojo. This song is surprisingly simple and elegant.
“I’m Good, I’m Gone” – Terrific pop song. Again, it leans on simplicity. Li lets the melody steal the show without trying to overwhelming it without crazy beats.
“Little Bit” – Pop satisfaction guaranteed. Rarely does such a simple pop track hook you so well.
“Let It Fall”

The rest:
“Melodies & Desires” – The instrumental reminds me of cool fall days waiting for winter to arrive. I could have done without the spoken word portion.
“My Love” – The rare average song.

Finally:
If only Kylie Minogue could have kidnapped Lykke Li for her songs Kylie wouldn’t have disappeared so quickly from the charts. Portishead should have kidnapped Lykke Li because her songs could have just as easily fit their style. Lykke Li writes songs that are so thread-bare that they could fit in most any genre. That’s not easy to pull off.
