Katy Perry
Katy Perry
Pop sensation and multi-platinum recording artist Katy Perry is set to host TEEN CHOICE 2010 airing Monday, Aug. 9 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. The Grammy-nominated artist will also perform during the 12th annual special that celebrates the year’s hottest teen icons in film, television, music, sports and fashion.

TEEN CHOICE 2010 will award the coveted Teen Choice Surfboard awards to the year’s coolest stars in categories such as Choice TV Villain, Choice Scene Stealer and the newest entry, Choice Country Music Artist. A co-host, nominees, presenters and additional performers will be announced soon.

Singer-songwriter Katy Perry has gone from internet music sensation to bona fide international star in just two years. Her multi-platinum debut album, “One of the Boys,” generated four hit singles: “I Kissed A Girl,” “Hot N Cold,” “Thinking Of You” and “Waking Up In Vegas.” This August, the Grammy-nominated artist will release her next album, “Teenage Dream,” which features “California Gurls,” the fastest-rising single to Top 10 radio in more than four years. A 30 second teaser for the video can be seen here.

In addition to selling five million albums worldwide, the Santa Barbara, CA-born Perry has appeared on the covers of dozens of publications, including Seventeen, Cosmopolitan and Glamour. She also served as a guest judge at the auditions on the most recent season of AMERICAN IDOL. Perry was voted Best New Artist in 2008 by readers of Rolling Stone and Best New Act at the 2008 Europe Music Awards. More recently, she was named one of People’s “Most Beautiful People,” one of Entertainment Weekly’s “Entertainers of the Year,” one of Esquire’s “Women We Love,” and No. 1 on Maxim’s 2010 “Hot 100” list.

TEEN CHOICE 2010 is executive-produced by Bob Bain (“Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards”) and Michael Burg. Paul Flattery serves as producer, Kelly Brock is co-producer and Greg Sills serves as supervising producer.

Katy Perry releases “California Gurls”

Katy Perry "California Gurls"After scoring four smash singles off her five-million-selling 2008 debut album One of the Boys, two-time Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter Katy Perry returns to set airwaves ablaze with a scorching brand-new single “California Gurls,” which ignited radio with a surprise release on May 7. The single is now available for sale digitally worldwide.

An irresistible, hook-filled clarion call to throw on Daisy Dukes and a bikini top, “California Gurls” will “melt your popsicle,” Katy assures us in this party anthem of the summer. The sizzling track — a fresh evolution of Perry’s witty, sassy sound — is the follow-up to her back-to-back-to-back No. 1 chart-toppers “I Kissed A Girl”, “Hot N Cold”, and “Waking Up In Vegas” from One of the Boys.

The Santa Barbara-born Perry was inspired to write “California Gurls” as she watched her friends go crazy at a party listening to Jay-Z’s salute to New York, “Empire State of Mind.” “Everybody was holding their drinks in the air and dancing, and I thought, ‘We’re not in New York, we’re in Los Angeles! What about California? What about all the homies, the gin and juice, the swaying palm trees, the sun-kissed skin 24-7,’” Perry recalls. “I decided that we needed to make a response. I want people to want to book a ticket to California the first time they hear it!” And because it’s practically un-American to release a song that mentions gin and juice without Snoop Dogg, Perry recruited the rap icon to contribute his inimitable vocals to “California Gurls.” “We thought it would sound so cool and give the song another dimension,” she says. “Snoop is as West Coast as it gets.”

“California Gurls” is just a taste of what’s to come when Katy unleashes her brand-new album Teenage Dream, which will be released by Capitol Records on August 24th in the U.S. and Canada; and August 30th in the rest of the world. The album is the follow-up to Perry’s blockbuster debut One of the Boys, which has been certified platinum in the U.S. and has sold five million copies worldwide. The album spawned four smash singles, including the back-to-back No. 1, Grammy-nominated chart-toppers “I Kissed A Girl” and “Hot N Cold” (both selling more than a combined eight million copies in the US), “Thinking of You” (No. 1 Airplay in five countries), and “Waking Up in Vegas” (2.3 million sold in the US and No. 1 Airplay in five countries). Perry has sold more than 22 million singles, digital tracks, and mobile products worldwide.

Katy’s success has led her to become one of the most talked-about new artists of the past two years. Since exploding onto the scene in 2008 with “Ur So Gay,” and touring the entire run of the Vans Warped tour, she has appeared on the covers of 12 national magazines (including Seventeen, Cosmopolitan, Glamour, Nylon, Complex, Paper, Lucky, Out, and Billboard) and countless international publications, launched a sold-out 50-city world headlining tour, appeared on several national morning and late-night talk shows (including The Today Show, American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance?, Ellen, The CBS Early Show, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and Chelsea Lately in the US and Later with Jools Holland (UK), Taratata (France), the Echo Awards (Germany) and many others internationally), as well as NBC’s New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly. She has presented awards (and gotten slimed) at the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards, presented at the 2010 Grammy Awards (where “Hot N Cold” was nominated for “Best Female Pop Vocal Performance”), and performed at the Grammy Awards ceremony in 2009 when she was nominated in the same category for “I Kissed A Girl.” Most recently, Perry has appeared as a judge on the Fox juggernaut American Idol and been named one of People Magazine’s “Most Beautiful People” of 2010, one of Entertainment Weekly’s Entertainers of the Year, Esquire’s Women We Love and voted 2008 Best New Artist by readers of Rolling Stone. She has also hosted and performed – twice at the MTV EMA’s.

Katy Perry "Unplugged"Coming off her third No. 1 single, “Waking Up in Vegas,” multi-platinum Capitol singer-songwriter Katy Perry is set to put her unique signature on yet another defining signpost of global pop culture, releasing her upcoming appearance on “MTV: UNPLUGGED” in CD + DVD set in one package on November 17, 2009.

Recorded live in New York on July 22, 2009, Perry presents some of her most well-known songs in a whole new way, performing unplugged re-arrangements of her No. 1 hits “I Kissed A Girl” and “Waking Up In Vegas,” along with the No. 1 video hit “Thinking Of You,” and the popular tracks “Ur So Gay” and “Lost” from her debut album ONE OF THE BOYS, which has now sold five million worldwide.

The MTV: UNPLUGGED set list is rounded out with two brand-new tracks, a cover of the Fountains of Wayne song “Hackensack,” and the never before released original song “Brick By Brick.” The DVD release also features exclusive interview footage.

Individual songs from the program will be debuting during MTV’s morning all-music video block AMTV on November 16th, and the full program, along with interview material, will air on Palladia, MTV Networks’ high-definition music channel, on November 27th, at 9 PM and 12 AM.

In this appearance, Katy Perry joins a distinguished roster of MTV: Unplugged performers, memorably including Eric Clapton, whose 1992 program featured “Tears in Heaven” and “Layla” and won six Grammys, among them Album of the Year, Tony Bennett, who won Grammy’s Album of the Year for his 1994 appearance, Nirvana and others.

Katy Perry is only the fourth artist in history to have 4 hit singles, 3 of which went to No. 1 from a debut album. Katy’s first two single releases, the seven-week Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 “I Kissed a Girl” and the No. 1 mainstream top 40 radio hit “Hot N Cold,” are RIAA-certified for triple-platinum sales. ONE OF THE BOYS also includes the #1 VH-1 Countdown ballad hit “Thinking of You.” Katy Perry is a Brit Award and MTV Europe Music Award winner, and is also a Grammy Award, MTV Video Music Award and Teen Choice Award nominee.

Katy Perry gets third #3 with “Waking Up In Vegas”

Katy Perry
Katy Perry
What wakes up in Vegas…couldn’t possibly remain a secret, if it has anything to do with Katy Perry, the Capitol Records multi-platinum singer-songwriter who has completely captured the fun, the rhythm, the smarts, the look and the sound of our times in her smash debut album “One of the Boys.”

“Waking Up In Vegas,” the fourth hit single from the album, is this week’s No. 1 most-played record on the mainstream top 40 pop radio stations across the country, an extraordinary feat of late-game staying power for Perry, whose story began, amazingly, a full fourteen months ago with the official release of Katy’s first worldwide No. 1 hit, “I Kissed a Girl.” With the album’s second single, “Hot N Cold,” also a No. 1 in the format, Perry is only the fourth artist in the history of Billboard’s mainstream top 40 airplay chart to have scored three No. 1s from a debut album: Katy joins Ace of Base, Avril Lavigne and Lady GaGa in this accomplishment.

The public enthusiasm for Perry, her music — and, honestly, everything about her, has continued unabated since her sensational arrival and top 10 album debut: last week, Katy appeared on the popular Rockefeller Center concert series of NBC’s Today show, and on August 8th will fill in as solo host, fittingly, on her pal Ryan Seacrest’s “American Top 40” weekly radio countdown show.

Perry has also completed taping an episode of MTV’s signature Unplugged series for cablecast this year, and shot a special in-studio performance for Clear Channel Radio’s online Stripped feature. And she continues to dominate the magazine covers of 2009, most recently Billboard, Paper, Seventeen, Cosmopolitan and Complex. Also in the upper reaches of the national pop chart, Perry is the co-writer of Kelly Clarkson’s current single, “I Do Not Hook Up,” from the No. 1 album, All I Ever Wanted.

“Waking Up In Vegas” was co-written by Perry with veteran hitmakers Andreas Carlsson and Desmond Child. The track was produced by Greg Wells. Grammy and MTV Video Music Award winner Joseph Kahn directed the video clip, filmed in a two-day Las Vegas shoot co-starring Joel David Moore (Bones, House, Avatar, Grandma’s Boy).

Katy’s first two single releases, the seven-week Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 “I Kissed a Girl” and the No. 1 mainstream top 40 radio hit “Hot N Cold,” are RIAA-certified for triple-platinum sales. ONE OF THE BOYS also includes the #1 VH1 Countdown ballad hit “Thinking of You” and the pre-album online video blockbuster of late 2007, “Ur So Gay.” Katy Perry is a Brit Award and MTV Europe Music Award winner, and is also a Grammy Award, MTV Video Music Award and Teen Choice Award nominee. Katy has played 150 shows around the world since she joined the Van’s Warped Tour on June 20, 2008, including 55 sold-out headlining “Hello Katy” concerts.

Katy Perry on tour and releases new single “Thinking of You”

Katy Perry
Katy Perry
With her act on the road again in the midst of her 50-city sold out world headline tour, Grammy nominated Capitol Records break through artist KATY PERRY, 2008’s most-noted, most-discussed and most-danced-to new artist, extends her remarkable track record at full force, well into 2009.

As “Thinking of You,” the newest single from the album, bullets in the Top 20 of both Mainstream Top 40 and Hot AC formats, Perry’s debut album ONE OF THE BOYS has earned RIAA platinum certification for U.S. sales in excess of 1 million copies, enjoying a rebound into the national Top 30, eight full months after its No. 9 Billboard Top 200 debut.

In singles sales, Perry is the only artist to have more than one single certified at triple-platinum level or more in the last 12-month period, with the phenomenal seven-week U.S. No. 1 debut “I Kissed a Girl” and “Hot N Cold” which has surpassed “I Kissed A Girl” in digital sales.

In total worldwide sales, Perry’s album has sold over 2 million copies and individual tracks are approaching the 14-million mark, with multi-platinum certification in five international markets and gold/platinum in seven more for “I Kissed a Girl;” multi-platinum sales in Canada and New Zealand and gold/platinum in eight additional markets for “Hot N Cold.” ONE OF THE BOYS has achieved platinum certification in Australia, Canada, Ireland and U.K., and gold sales in nine other international markets. Perry was recently named Best International Female Solo Artist at the prestigious Brit Awards.

Katy Perry gets second #1 hit with “Hot N Cold”

katy perry

This years best new artist keeps breaking through. Capitol Records’ own KATY PERRY adds another milestone to her already remarkable career, as the high-voltage smash “Hot N Cold” becomes her second No. 1-charted hit, reflecting national play in America’s Top 40 radio format. The platinum-selling ONE OF THE BOYS rebounded into the Top 25 of the national Billboard Top 200 album chart five months after its release, thanks to the massive radio play of Katy’s second consecutive chart-topper. The song is also No. 1 in Canada and Australia and in the Top 15 in the UK, Finland, Holland and New Zealand.

Katy begins her first worldwide headline tour in early 2009, starting January 23rd in Seattle, WA, and closing in her hometown of Santa Barbara, CA in May, with stops in 50 cities. Tickets are currently on sale.

Katy’s debut single, “I Kissed a Girl,” was her first international No. 1 hit. Its seven-week run at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 equaled the Capitol Records label record previously set by The Beatles’ “I Wanna Hold Your Hand”. The song was the 1,000th American No. 1 hit of the rock era, surpassing 2 million domestic paid downloads, and now approaching 6 million in global single sales. In addition, the song was No. 1 nationally in 15 countries, including the U.K., Canada, Germany, Sweden, and Australia as well as a No. 1 iTunes download in over a dozen countries, and a No. 1 airplay smash in 20 territories.

ONE OF THE BOYS made its debut at No. 9 on Billboard’s Top 200 album chart, and No. 4 on the Top Digital Album chart, on July 5, 2008. The album track fan favorite “Thinking of You” is being prepared for single release in December.
