U2 release rare footage from “The Unforgettable Fire”

With the re-release of U2’s fourth album, The Unforgettable Fire, the group has decided to share rarely seen before seen video footage with their fans. The video showcases frontman Bono speaking on the recording process of the breakthrough album and flashes back to some of the most historical songs ever written.

The special edition release of The Unforgettable Fire marks 25 years since the album’s original release in October 1984. Recorded at Slane Castle, Ireland, The Unforgettable Fire was the first U2 album to be produced by Brian Eno and Danny Lanois, and spawned two top 10 UK singles – “Pride (In The Name Of Love)” and “The Unforgettable Fire.”

The Unforgettable Fire is available now in four different formats, with deluxe editions that feature two previously unheard tracks from the Slane Castle sessions: “Yoshino Blossom”, and “Disappearing Act” as well as a limited edition Super Deluxe package which includes a DVD featuring music videos, a documentary and unreleased live footage from the Amnesty International Conspiracy of Hope Tour in 1986.

U2’s The Edge, directed the remastering from the original audio tapes, this release is a must have for any U2.

U2’s 360 tour officially kicked off this week in Barcelona, Spain in front of a crowd of thousands. Prior to embarking on their World tour, the band played a string of intimate club dates including a stop at the historic Sommerville Theatre which lies just outside of Boston. With an audience of hundreds, rather than thousands, U2 rocked No Line On The Horizon’s first single “Get On Your Boots”!

U2.com today confirms that the U2 360° tour will open at the Nou Camp Stadium in Barcelona on 30th June. The U2 360° Tour is sponsored by BlackBerry� and it is the band’s first stadium outing since the Vertigo Tour 05/06 and follows the release of their acclaimed album, No Line On The Horizon. Their 12th studio album, No Line On The Horizon is already number 1 in the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Belgium, Finland, Japan and the Czech Republic with further chart positions to be announced this week.

Produced by Live Nation Global Touring, U2 360° will visit 14 cities across Europe including dates in Milan, Gothenburg, Amsterdam, Paris, Nice, Dublin, Chorzow, Berlin, Gelsenkirchen, London, Sheffield and Glasgow before finishing at Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on 22nd August. The European tour will be followed by dates in North America beginning at Chicago’s Soldier Field on September 12th, 2009.

Long-time U2 Show Director Willie Williams has worked again with architect Mark Fisher (ZooTV, PopMart, Elevation and Vertigo), to create an innovative 360˚ design which affords an unobstructed view for the audience. U2 360° also marks the first time a band has toured in stadiums with such a unique and original structure (which can be viewed at U2.com).

“U2 has always been at their best when surrounded by their audience, this staging takes a giant leap forward. With 85 percent of the tickets priced at less than $95.00, general admission floor tickets priced at $55.00 and at least 10,000 tickets at every venue priced at the $30.00 price range, we have worked very hard to ensure that U2 fans can purchase a great priced ticket with a guaranteed great view” says U2’s manager Paul McGuinness.

In keeping with their long-standing tradition, U2 will welcome a number of different support acts to the tour including Glasvegas, Elbow, Kaiser Chiefs, Snow Patrol and Black Eyed Peas with additional artists to be announced.

Tickets for U2 360° performances in Milan and Gothenburg go on sale this Friday, March 13th. Tickets for the Amsterdam performance go on sale this Saturday, March 14th. Corporate line:
“No Line On The Horizon,” the new studio album from U2 is the band’s 12th studio album calls on the production talents of long-time collaborators Brian Eno and Danny Lanois, with additional production by Steve Lillywhite. The album is available in five different packages.

The good:
“No Line On The Horizon” – Not going to be confused with any of their best songs—it’ll still have you listening over and over again.

“Moment of Surrender” – This song should have been called “Magnificent.” This seven-minute track is a showstopper. It’s simply gorgeous and proves that even a simple song can leave a big impression.

“Breathe” – Might not be a great song—however its still one that hooks you in quickly and keeps you intrigued.

The rest:
“Get On Your Boots” – It’s hard to believe this is the first single. It’s one of the album’s weaker tracks and too full of generic rock. U2 at their most average.

“Magnificent” – A slushy song that doesn’t do anything.

Finally:
U2 is one of the few legendary groups the world still waits in anticipation to hear. Which makes “No Line on the Horizon” a let down. It’s hard to listen without expecting your world to be turned upside down. Instead “No Line on the Horizon” would be above average for most bands and merely average for U2. The instrumentation is great and some of the lyrics are good—and yet there are many songs that are far too trite. If only U2 didn’t have to be compared to U2.

“Get On Your Boots” has been directed by French film maker and artist Alex Courtes. Alex and former creative partner Martin Fougeral directed the Grammy winning video for “Vertigo”, and also directed the video for “City of Blinding Lights”.

The video was shot in London and features the band performing against complex graphic art designed by Courtes.

Speaking of the song and the video, The Edge has said, “It’s based around the idea that men have f**ked things up so badly, politically, economically and socially, that it’s really time we handed things over to women. The finished video is brilliant. He’s really nailed it.”

“Get On Your Boots” is the first single from U2’s 12th studio album No Line On The Horizon, out 2nd March 2009.

“Get On Your Boots,” the first single from U2’s new album No Line On The Horizon, will be released on January 19th on Interscope Records. The album is currently available for pre-order and will be released on March 3rd.

Produced by Brian Eno, Daniel Lanois and Steve Lillywhite, sessions for No Line On The Horizon began in Fez, Morocco, and continued at the band’s Dublin studio, New York’s Platinum Sound Recording Studios, and Olympic Studios in London.

The album will be released in a standard format with a 24- page booklet and in digipak format. The digipak includes an extended booklet and the album’s companion film “Linear” by Anton Corbijn. A limited edition 64-page magazine will also be available, featuring the band in conversation with artist Catherine Owens, and new Anton Corbijn photographs. No Line On The Horizon will be released on 180gm vinyl.

The cover artwork for the album is an image of the sea meeting the sky by Japanese artist and photographer Hiroshi Sugimoto.
