So the big winners were Robert Plant & Alison Krauss. Whatever. “Raising Sand” was an interesting album but all you had to do is watch the duo perform “Rich Woman” to realize that you weren’t seeing anything new or extraordinary. Not when you compare it to Radiohead. “In Rainbows” was a far more superior album. Radiohead expanded the boundaries and turned out another great performance. Not to mention the fact that they gave it away for free to the masses. You only needed to watch Radiohead’s performance of “15 Step” to see how much of an evolution it is to rock–much like Zeppelin was in their heyday. But Planet’s music today is positively ancient.

Robert Plant. Getty.

This wasn’t the biggest robbery of all time–that happened in 1998 40th Grammy Awards when Bob Dylan’s “Time Out Of Mind” beat Radiohead’s “Ok Computer.” So Radiohead got screwed for a second time.

How does this happen? Because most of the judges (150 experts from the recording industry) are a bunch of old guys who are out of touch with the rest of the world. Trent Reznor is quoted as saying: “While the music industry is doing everything they possibly can to go out of business, can we all make sure to rid ourselves of the Grammys, too? Out of touch old men jacking each other off.”

Reznor nailed it. And this year another bunch of artists got screwed. Do the judges feel bad because Led Zeppelin got snubbed? So does that mean when Radiohead reunite in 30 years to do bluegrass they can finally win a Grammy? Give me a break.

And the Jay-Z/Chris Martin duo was a mess. Why kill that song by throwing Jay-Z in there without any chemistry? And the biggest sin was giving Paul McCartney one song. One song for a legend while Kid Rock gets 3 songs? Who’s producing that show Kid Rock’s manager? I won’t even get into the M.I.A. performance.

The Grammy’s are a joke. They are insignificant. And if you care at all who one you can go to the Grammy website–because we aren’t posting that nonsense here.

Little more than a year since Radiohead’s October 10, 2007 pay-what-you-like self-release of its seventh album, In Rainbows, some conclusive statistics were made available at the recent “You Are In Control” conference in Reykjavik, Iceland.

For those who missed coverage of the conference while engrossed in something as trivial as the Presidential Debates or the world economic collapse, the following is a summation of key answers to FAQs:

* In Rainbows has sold three million copies thus far, a figure that includes downloads from Radiohead.com, physical CDs, a deluxe 2-CD/vinyl box set, as well as sales via iTunes and other digital retailers.

* The In Rainbows deluxe edition sold 100,000 copies via Radiohead fan service W.A.S.T.E.

* Radiohead made more money prior to In Rainbows’ January 2008 physical release than its total take on 2003’s Hail To the Thief.

* The physical release of In Rainbows entered both the US and UK charts at #1 in January, despite having been freely available since October 2007.

* In Rainbows was the first Radiohead album available on iTunes, where it went in at #1 in January, selling 30,000 in its first week.

In Rainbows also owns the singular distinction of being the first record widely regarded as album of the year in advance of its actual physical release: By the time TBD/ATO released In Rainbows to retail on January 1, 2008, the digital version had already topped the 2007 year-end lists at NEW YORK, THE NEW YORK TIMES, ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY, NPR, TIME, PEOPLE, ROLLING STONE, BLENDER, SPIN, THE LOS ANGELES TIMES and many more.

Radiohead recently concluded a world tour in Japan, one that sold over 1.2 million tickets.

After the overwhelming response to the Nude Remix Project, Radiohead are giving fans the opportunity to remix “Reckoner”, another track from the band’s latest album “In Rainbows” at http://www.radioheadremix.com

To make remixing easy, the separate ’stems’* from the song will be available to purchase on iTunes. The ’stems’ available are bass, lead vocal, backing vocals, guitars, piano/strings and drums. All six stems will be available to buy for the price of a single track. Fans can mix them in any way they like, either by adding their own beats and instrumentation, or just remixing the original parts.

Fans who purchase the ’stems’ from iTunes during the first two weeks they’re available, will be sent an access code to a GarageBand file ready to open in GarageBand or Logic. However, you don’t need GarageBand to do a remix, the stems are available in the DRM-free iTunes Plus format and compatible with several music software platforms.

Finished mixes can be uploaded to http://www.radioheadremix.com where the public will listen and vote for their favourite. Fans can also create a widget allowing votes from their own website, Facebook or MySpace page to be counted as ‘mix votes’ back on radioheadremix.com.

*’stems’ are the component parts of the song.
