The Bourne Conspiracy is coming to a video game console near you

If you want to kick some a$$ as Jason Bourne you can get your rocks off on the latest video game release. Here’s the usual corporate salespitch.

Sierra Entertainment today announced that the Robert Ludlum’s The Bourne Conspiracy™ video game will ship in North America June 3, 2008 on Microsoft’s Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system and the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system. The game brings Jason Bourne’s signature combat style to life by sharply blending a seamless mix of hand-to-hand fighting, gunplay and dramatic escapes. To round out the non-stop action to the title’s hunter-prey game play, The Bourne Conspiracy will give gamers a re-imagination of the high speed pursuit through Paris in the MINI COOPER®.

Through close partnership with Ludlum Entertainment, and collaboration on story and character development with Bourne screenwriter Tony Gilroy, The Bourne Conspiracy is an intense interactive addition to the blockbuster films and best-selling novels. The game delivers an original story uncovering Jason Bourne’s past and the conspiracy shrouding his origins, plunging players into the role of Bourne as both trained assassin and marked government agent. Core to the experience is Bourne’s definition as a perfect weapon with heightened combat instinct, where players use Bourne’s characteristic capabilities to recognize threats, perform devastating takedown moves and use his surrounding environment to overcome deadly situations.
“Wrought with action, combat, elaborate escape scenes and untold story, the Bourne series is making a natural progression into the interactive medium,” said Al Simone, senior vice president, global marketing, Sierra Entertainment. “We’re pleased to announce that this June gamers will have the chance to experience the dangerously exciting aura and frenetic pace inherent in the Bourne franchise.”

Developed by High Moon Studios and based around a combat system co-designed by Jeff Imada, the renowned choreographer who defined Bourne-style combat in the films, The Bourne Conspiracy delivers gamers every signature Jason Bourne element, from hand-to-hand fighting to shooting to escape and evasion. Framing the experience is a relentless pace of action and an in-game camera system that captures the cinematography techniques that established the memorable visual style of the films.

Capturing the intense high-speed pursuit based on the memorable car chase from The Bourne Identity, players will take the wheel in an upgraded version of Marie’s red MINI COOPER trying to evade seemingly every police car in Paris. Arcade racing-style game play and destructive stunt setups combine with Bourne instinct-based game mechanics to create a previously unseen and unforgettable action driving experience.

“We’re creating a video game that is distinctly Bourne, based on a deconstruction of the character from action hero to game hero, and one that we ultimately believe gamers will discover as a distinctively original licensed action game,” said Emmanuel Valdez, chief creative officer, High Moon Studios and game director on The Bourne Conspiracy.

Mariah Carey dropping science in April

History tells us that Mariah Carey will either hit it out of the park or strikeout with her newest album. But the latest scoop from the label has them touting this as the next best thing since, well, Mariah’s last album. Here is the press release.

International superstar Mariah Carey reaches a once-in-a-lifetime career achievement as her current single “Touch My Body” goes to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week and becomes her 18th career #1 hit – surpassing one of the most enduring chart records in Billboard Hot 100 history, Elvis Presley’s 17 #1’s. Mariah is now positioned as the only active recording artist in the 50 years of the Hot 100 (which began in 1958) with the potential to surpass the Beatles’ all-time high of 20 #1 hits.

“Touch My Body” takes over #1 with an all-time record-setting 286,000 debut week at #1 on the Billboard hot digital songs chart, and a Hot 100 Airplay radio audience now over 115 million. The video, directed by feature filmmaker Brett Ratner, and featuring a cameo by Jack McBrayer (30 Rock’s Kenneth Parcell), stays at #1 on the Yahoo Music Video Chart, Yahoo Launchcast and AOL. And Mariah’s widget has been viewed over 4.26 million times!

“Touch My Body” is the first smash from Mariah’s highly anticipated hot new album E=MC², arriving in stores April 15th. Pre-orders are now underway for E=MC², with iTunes customers receiving “Touch My Body” instantly with their pre-order.

“Touch My Body” was one of two songs Mariah performed last month on NBC’s Saturday Night Live (show to be re-run on May 3rd). Last week, Mariah gave a special performance of “Touch My Body” and “We Belong Together” after the third season premiere of the MTV reality series, “The Hills.” The episode set a year-to-date record as the highest rated telecast on cable tv, with 5 million viewers tuning in.

On April 9th, Mariah will join an all-star cast for the second annual “IDOL Gives Back” two-hour tv special, a music celebration raising awareness and benefiting various U.S. and international charities. The first special raised $76 million last year, and won a prestigious Governor’s Emmy Award.

On Monday, April 14th, Mariah will appear as special guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show, preceding the E=MC² album release day on the 15th. The next night, April 16th, Mariah will perform on “American Idol” after serving as musical mentor to that week’s finalists.

“Touch My Body” was produced by Mariah Carey, C. “Tricky” Stewart, and fellow Island Def Jam artist The-Dream. Other guest producers joining Mariah on E=MC² include Jermaine Dupri, DJ Toomp, Stargate, Will I Am, Bryan Michael Cox, Nate “Danjahandz” Hills and James Poyser. The album is executive produced by Mariah Carey and Antonio “LA” Reid, Chairman, Island Def Jam Music Group.

The 11th studio album of her career, E=MC² follows-up The Emancipation Of Mimi, Mariah’s worldwide 10 million selling #1 album, which generated three Grammy awards (including Best Contemporary R&B Album), two #1 singles, and countless more honors during its 18-month stay on the charts. Released April 12, 2005, Mimi was an industry phenomenon for the mega-platinum award-winning superstar. Soundscan’s biggest-selling album of the year, it brought total sales of Mariah’s albums, singles and videos to over 160 million worldwide, making her the top-selling female recording artist in history.

Mimi featured “We Belong Together” (Grammy winner for Best Female R&B Vocal and Best R&B Song) and “Don’t Forget About Us,” Mariah’s 16th and 17th #1 singles respectively – which tied Elvis Presley’s 17 #1’s. “Touch My Body” now surpasses Elvis as Mariah’s 18th #1 hit, and positions her as the only active recording artist with the potential to surpass the Beatles’ all-time high of 20 #1 hits. “Touch My Body” also marks Mariah’s 78th cumulative career week at #1, as she closes the gap on Elvis Presley’s all-time high record of 80 weeks at #1.

Kenny Chesney releases new single

Though he may pensively muse “I’m better as a memory than as your man” on his latest single, Kenny Chesney’s latest song is absolutely right now. Debuting on the Mediabase chart at #28 on its official add date, “Better As A Memory” takes a 22 place jump on Billboard/R&R from 47* to 25 — making it their Most Added and Greatest Gainer on the day adds were officially being solicited. “Better As A Memory,” is the fourth single from Chesney’s Just Who I Am album that also include the hits, “Never Wanted Nothing More,” “Don’t Blink,” and “Shiftwork.”

“Songs like this are tricky,” allows the man who spent 14 weeks of 2007 at #1 with “Beer In Mexico,” “Never Wanted Nothing’ More” and “Don’t Blink,” as well as writing Rascal Flatts’ “Take Me There,” also a 3 week #1. “These are the songs that have a little more depth, that maybe make you listen a little harder… and in the end, sometimes they’re the songs that end up meaning the most to people.

“It still amazes me that when I play shows no matter where we are, the audience always sings the chorus of ‘Anything But Mine’ back to me… I always say ‘This is for anyone who’s ever had a summer love…,’ and I think that’s pretty much everyone. And I think this song, which is written by the same guy, is one of those deals where we’ve all been there: you love someone, but you know you’re not the one.”

Co-written by Scooter Carusoe, the man responsible for the 3 week #1 “Anything But Mine,” Music Row’s Dean of Critics Robert K. Oermann raved about “Better As A Memory,” writing, “Superstar Kenny Chesney owns the week, completely. The new single is not only the Disc of the Day, but it could be the performance of his life. So-o-o-o beautiful/ A sensuous audio bath with a lyric awash in wistful regret, a supremely lovely single, perhaps the finest of his career.”

“I think when you love the music, you have to let it lead,” the three consecutive and current ACM and three-time and reigning Country Music Association Entertainer of the Year says. “To me, that’s where this all begins. We got an awful lot of people who come out to rock with us and have a good time, but really, I think if people don’t see their lives in your songs… don’t feel like they’re living what you’re singing, it never truly connects. I know that’s how it always was for me… and I know this is a song I’ve been inside a few times– and it says it in a way I couldn’t quite. For anyone else who’s ever been there, well, there you go.”

“All this: the songs, the tours, the fans helping people’s dreams come true,” says Chesney, “is what makes memories matter. I don’t know if I’m better as a memory or a man, I’m just be glad to be part of the soundtrack.”

The Visitor is coming to theaters April 11th

In a world of six billion people, it only takes one to change your life. In actor and filmmaker Tom McCarthy’s follow-up to his award winning directorial debut The Station Agent, Richard Jenkins (Six Feet Under) stars as a disillusioned Connecticut economics professor whose life is transformed by a chance encounter in New York City.

Sixty-two-year-old Walter Vale (Jenkins) is sleepwalking through his life. Having lost his passion for teaching and writing, he fills the void by unsuccessfully trying to learn to play classical piano. When his college sends him to Manhattan to attend a conference, Walter is surprised to find a young couple has taken up residence in his apartment. Victims of a real estate scam, Tarek (Haaz Sleiman), a Syrian man, and Zainab (Danai Gurira), his Senegalese girlfriend, have nowhere else to go. In the first of a series of tests of the heart, Walter reluctantly allows the couple to stay with him.

Touched by his kindness, Tarek, a talented musician, insists on teaching the aging academic to play the African drum. The instrument’s exuberant rhythms revitalize Walter’s faltering spirit and open his eyes to a vibrant world of local jazz clubs and Central Park drum circles. As the friendship between the two men deepens, the differences in culture, age and temperament fall away.

After being stopped by police in the subway, Tarek is arrested as an undocumented citizen and held for deportation. As his situation turns desperate, Walter finds himself compelled to help his new friend with a passion he thought he had long ago lost. When Tarek’s beautiful mother Mouna (Hiam Abbass) arrives unexpectedly in search of her son, the professor’s personal commitment develops into an unlikely romance.
And it’s through these new found connections with these virtual strangers that Walter is awakened to a new world and a new life.

The band’s 14th studio album, Accelerate has already topped four Amazon.com charts (Overall Music, Alternative, Adult Alternative, and Rock) while still in pre-order, no doubt in part to the amazing word-of-mouth it has already received from critics, who have hailed it as the band’s finest work in years.

“Shoe Star” – new online reality series

Footwear News and Nine West, in association with New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology, are putting seven promising designers to the test in the first Shoe Star contest.

Who has what it takes to become the footwear industry’s next up-and-coming designer? Footwear News and Nine West, in association with New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology, are putting seven promising designers to the test in the first Shoe Star contest. The contestants were chosen from among the school’s accessories design seniors after a rigorous judging process conducted by the FN staff. Over the next six months, the seven finalists will compete against each other in a series of six challenges testing their ability to think outside the box and create innovative designs that will keep them in the running to win the 2008 Shoe Star title. A panel of industry professionals, including FN’s editorial director Michael Atmore, Nine West’s creative director Fred Allard, FIT’s professor and chairperson of the accessories design program Ellen Goldstein and a rotating list of celebrity judges, will critique each challenge, eliminating one contestant each round until the winner is announced at the Fashion Footwear Association of New York’s tradeshow in June. In addition to the 2008 Shoe Star title, the winner will gain a coveted spot on the Nine West design team to work on the spring ’09 footwear, handbags and accessories collections. As the contest progresses, FN will be documenting the competition online and in print, while Ninewest.com will feature video highlights from each week’s judging round. These seven student designers have secured a place in the competition, but only one of them will become the next Shoe Star.

Radiohead wants you to remix them!

Radiohead, iTunes and Garageband are giving fans the opportunity to remix the band’s new single “Nude” at http://www.radioheadremix.com

To make remixing easy, the separate ‘stems’* from the song will be available to purchase from iTunes. The ‘stems’ available are bass, voice, guitar, strings/fx and drums. Fans can mix them in any way they like, either by adding their own beats and instrumentation, or just remixing the original parts.

Fans who purchase all five ‘stems’ from iTunes during the first week they’re available, will be sent an access code to a GarageBand file ready to open in GarageBand or Logic. However, you don’t need GarageBand to do a remix, all the stems are available in iTunes Plus and compatible with several music software platforms.

Finished mixes can be uploaded to http://www.radioheadremix.com where the public will listen and vote for their favourite remix (voting ends May 1st). Fans can also create a widget allowing votes from their own website, Facebook or MySpace page to be counted as ‘mix votes’ back on radioheadremix.com.
