Christmas comes two days early for Jamie Foxx as his third album, Intuition, debuts at #3 on this week’s Top 200 Albums chart, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Sparked by the hit songs “Just Like Me” featuring T.I., and “She Got Her Own” featuring Ne-Yo and Fabolous, Intuition also enters at #2 on the R&B Albums chart with a total of 265,196 units sold in the first week.
As “Just Like Me” continues to climb up the urban radio charts, the comical Brett Ratner-directed video peaked at #2 on BET’s 106 & Park and is in “Power” rotation on MTV2. With over 100 spins a week, “Just Like Me” was also the “Spotlight” video on VH1 Soul.
After officially announcing the December 16th release date for Intuition five weeks ago, the Academy Award winning actor and Grammy-nominated singer embarked on a whirlwind promo tour in support of the album, inclusive of multiple major cities album listening/release parties, radio visits and unforgettable TV appearances/performances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Good Morning America, BET’s 106 & Park, Live with Regis and Kelly, The Early Show, The View, and the CBS prime-time special A Home for the Holidays.
Bringing in the holiday season at the top of charts is nothing new to Foxx, who has always regarded himself as a singer and musician first, and actor second. On December 16, 2005, Foxx released his J Records debut album Unpredictable, which entered at #2 on both Top 200 Albums and Current R&B Albums charts. Sparked by the success of the album’s title track, Unpredictable sold 597,554 units in its first week of release and positioned Foxx among the ranks of 50 Cent, Coldplay, Kanye West and Mary J. Blige as one of the highest selling debuts of 2005.
After the second week of release, Unpredictable jumped to #1 on the Top 200 chart and earned Foxx the distinguished honor of being the first artist of 2006 to claim the top spot and joined the ranks of legendary actors Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby and Barbra Streisand as the fourth Academy Award winner to also have a #1 album in the US. Unpredictable remained # 1 for three weeks, sold over one million units in four weeks and eventually won Foxx an American Music Award in 2006 for Favorite R&B/Soul Male Artist.
AFI is inviting its fans, as vocalist Davey Havok puts it, “to be a part of the record, very literally. We’d like to invite you to come and sing on this new record that we’re making.”
Havok, guitarist Jade Puget, bassist Hunter and drummer Adam Carson are asking fans to submit videos (maximum two minutes in length), providing personal background, interests, etc. ultimately proving why he or she should be chosen to be a part of the new AFI album.
Submissions will be accepted at Begintransmission.afireinside.net from Saturday, December 20th through Sunday, January 4th. The band will watch each and every entry and will choose five winners to sing on a track on the new record. One additional winner will be chosen by AFI fans who will be able to vote on submissions posted at the AFI site.
AFI’s as yet untitled eighth record follows up DECEMBERUNDERGROUND, which was released on 6/6/06, debuted at #1 on the U.S. album chart, and went on to sell over a million copies. By January 2007, AFI had taken home an MTV Video Music Award (Best Rock Video for “Miss Murder”), scaled the year end best lists of ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY, ROLLING STONE, BLENDER, ALTERNATIVE PRESS, SPIN and REVOLVER, and made a debut appearance on SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE.
The All-American Rejects third studio album, When The World Comes Down, is available now! The highly anticipated follow up to Move Along was produced by Eric Valentine (Good Charlotte, Maroon 5) and features the infectious single “Gives You Hell.” The deluxe edition of the album features a bonus disc with six demos, a track by track commentary with Tyson and Nick, and the enhanced video for “Mona Lisa.” Amazon is offering a special deal to grab all of the mp3s from the album for only $2.99!
The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus have just released the first video from their upcoming Lonely Road album. “You Better Pray” is directed by Tony Petrossian who has also worked with bands like Rise Against, Taking Back Sunday, and Slipknot among others. The clip also is the first to not include guitarist Elias Reidy who is no longer with the band.
Vocalist Ronnie Winter explains, “As some of you may already know or have noticed by now (album cover, new video, myspace, etc.), Elias is no longer with RJA, and has not been since late October. As history goes, RJA was started by Ronnie and Duke about seven years ago, and there have been seven lineup changes since then, especially in the guitar department, where Elias was the 5th replacement guitarist (such is life in a rock n roll band). Anyway, more on this shortly, but regardless have no fear – the core of RJA remains intact.”
Chris Cornell has just premiered the video for “Scream,” the title track off of his Timbaland produced album due out next year. Directed by Alan Ferguson (Fall Out Boy, Gym Class Heroes), the cinematic piece captures the two opposing moods of the song. “My role in the video is performing the song in super-slow-motion,” explains Cornell. “I’m existing in this Zen-like world, singing these song lyrics and everything going on around me is super-fast, super-chaotic, and I’m just suspended in it.”
Switchfoot has launched a video contest asking fans to create a music video for the track “This Is Home.” This song was featured on the 2008 movie soundtrack for “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian”. One fan has already created a touching video about the troops reuniting with their families. Now Switchfoot wants to see what “This Is Home” means to you! Switchfoot will choose three top videos who will win signed “This is Home” lyrics plus autographed copies of The Best Yet CD.
The band has written a personal note with the details below.
Letter From Switchfoot:
Thank you for all the great comments so far on the new video for “This is Home”. When we wrote the song, we had always hoped that it would touch people in some way, and it seems that it has. One such person created their own version of the video and uploaded it to our YouTube group.
It really touched us, so much so that we hope it might inspire some of you to do the same. We want to see what “This Is Home” means to you. With the Holiday’s coming up, it seems very appropriate. So, create your own video, and upload to our This Is Home group channel. From all the entries, we’ll pick our three favorite, and those people will win signed “This is Home” lyrics plus autographed copies of The Best Yet CD. Be sure to get them in soon, the contest will end January 3, and we’ll pick the winners during that first week of January. We look forward to hearing from you!
