A Tribe Called Quest was one of hip-hop’s most innovative acts. Q-Tip was their frontman.

As a member of the Tribe he wrote such classic hits as “Check The Rhyme,” “Bonita Applebum,” “Scenario,” “Award Tour” “Hot Sex,” “Oh My God” “Electric Relaxation” and the current Q-tip hit “Vivrant Thing.”

A Tribe Called Quest first grooved into hip-hop lovers hearts in 1989 with the release of People’s Instinctive Travels. They then entered the region of the sublime with the 1991 splendid hip-hop/Jazz classic The Low End Theory. Two years later the group reached their highest critical moment with Midnight Marauders. 1996’s Beats, Rhymes and Life saw them plunge through spiritual maturation and 1998’s The Love Movement served up narratives of love and tragically divorce as this was their final album as a group.

A Tribe Called Quest built their socially conscious rhymes upon a foundation of positive hip-hop vibes. The combination of their strong jazz influences, with a trademark ability to combine rap styles and blend rhythm and rhyme, has resulted in their continued critical acclaim. The Anthology is a permanent record of why the group’s acclaim will always be warranted.
