THE STORY: Beginning September 5th, save your worries for another day, as The Jim Henson Company, HIT Entertainment and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment present more Fraggly fun with the all-new DVD release of the Fraggle Rock Complete Second Season. Available in a rockin’ five-disc box set, this latest release from the award-winning children’s television series – and one of HBO’s first original series – will feature all 24 episodes from the second season of Fraggle Rock. Additionally, the DVD will offer innovative bonus features, including a replica of creator Jim Henson’s original pitch book for the show, a special video tribute to legendary co-creator Jerry Juhl and exclusive interviews with the cast and crew members.
The release of the Fraggle Rock Complete Second Season comes on the heels of a fan-driven campaign calling for the series’ DVD debut. Legions of Fraggle Rock devotees proved that they were, indeed, down with Fraggle Rock, as they created an online petition that was signed by more than 35,000 fans urging for the DVD release of Fraggle Rock. HIT Entertainment responded and launched the Fraggle Rock Complete First Season in 2005.

THE REVIEW: Fraggle Rock was to be the new Muppets and it was a show that I thoroughly enjoyed growing up. It was a cute and wacky show with puppets and music. It was among my favorites as a kid—but watching it today is a whole other story. I know my kids enjoy it—but it isn’t nearly as much fun for me.
The music and colors and cute puppets all make it a great formula for kids. Fraggle Rock combines nearly everything a kid would love. With such a large cast of characters every show focuses on different storylines and characters—not unlike The Smurfs.
THE EXTRAS: An interesting feature is a replica of Jim Henson’s “Fraggle Rock” notepad. There is a very interesting set of interviews with “Fraggle Rock” cast and creators that goes deeper into the show with interesting insights. Also included is a behind the scenes documentary narrated by Jim Henson.
FRANKLY: Fraggle Rock is a great show for nostalgia or to introduce your kids to a show that amused you as a child. My kids certainly found the show a lot more interesting that I did doing the review. But that doesn’t mean the show isn’t great—and this isn’t a must own DVD. But if you are an adult I’m not sure that it will being intriguing particularly if you’ve never seen the show before. But its one of the best children shows and the second season is one of the best.
